What's Better Than Free?

Infos

To me it's something that's free and that I use so often and value so much that
I feel guilty for not paying for it! 😱 (I am going to send him some paypal)

Time for my St. Paddy's Day present to y'all
(It works on IE 5.5 and above)

Download this jewel here

Nutshell toolbar features:
Search the Web using Google.
Search within a site using Google.
Search Amazon.com.
Search Dictionary.com.
Search The Internet Movie Database.
Search Daypop, a site that aggregates news sites and weblogs.

Give it a try, after all it's free and if you love it post here.
ENJOY!

It IS hot if you have an open mind.
This DOES NOT take up any additional vertical space- It shares the address bar and if you're using the small icons without labels it makes a very useful addition.

It IS A LOT BETTER than just the google bar and it has a LOT MORE FEATURES.
Crap elsewhere MORONS:disgust:

Edit: For those of you that are interested
in maximizing your viewing real estate
hit F11
Sweet!, n'est-ce pas? 😉

In the olden days these toolbars used to slow down PCs to a trickle, do they still have that effect on the overall performance?
(When you install this, do you feel your PC run slower?)

signed,
threadcrapper

he-he that's one for you c627627, by the way were you named after your uncle? 😉
I've not noticed any speed slowdown.....
the biggest thing with me is because I use this feature maybe 30-40 times a day,
it saves me an awful lot of time 😀

Interesting I'll check it out.

I have the google toolbar now, but I found that I never use it.😱

Thanks Infos.

Back to your regularly scheduled thread crap.😉

Of course, of course.
I take it you admit these things are still memory hogs meaning if you have any sligtly older PC, Bob's your uncle, you will feel a significant slowdown.

I use the google toolbar and dont know how life would be without it. Well not quite, but I do use it everyday as a search tool instead of opening the website and searching that way. This is a good deal.

You can set IE to use many search engines as the default, so you just type the search phrase in the address bar without ANY add-on toolbars/etc. Unfortunately I don't remember the registry key to do that at the moment, but, uhhhhh, you can Google search for it.

Well, this is nice if you don't mind giving the Nutshell people get all the referral fees (for shopping sites anyway, e.g. Amazon). It'd be nice if AT got a customized Nutshell so that you can help this site.

I think this is what you are referring to:
Open search tab in IE -->Customize-->Press autosearch settings button-->select Google Sites

You can also install the registry addition here

Thanks Growltiger, I have been wondering when Microsoft would integrate the best search engine into their own toolbar. I had done the registry hack before in Win98, but it didn't work for me in XP.

Sweet, now I can have a new home page.😛

Opera has some nice features built in. For example, if you type "g motherboard" in the address bar, it will automatically search for motherboard using google. Type "a motheroard" it will use "all the web." Type "e motherboard" will search ebay. There are a ton more options. Also, right click on a word in a web page and you can look up that word in the dictionary or do a search.

Thanks for the Nutshell toolbar, it works great! And it's so small too, I have it on the same row as my other IE toolbars 🙂

Glad you like it, I forgot to mention that if you right click your toolbar you can
temporarily hide it as well 😉 Did you know the f 11 trick?
Lots of people don't even know it exists.

For those of you who don't want the clutter of another toolbar, you should download a copy of Microsoft's TweakUI. (Non-XP users click here)

The TweakUI utility allows you to customize your Windows environment. One of its great features is the ability to create custom search prefixes in IE, similar to what OTR mentioned in Opera. I've set up various prefixes that allow me to search using google web search, google usenet search, dictionary.com, etc. For example, if I want to look up the definition for facetious, I'd just type "d facetious" in my address bar, hit Enter, and have the dictionary.com definition page of facetious returned.

It's a great convenience. I can't imagine going back to the days when I didn't have it.

I forgot about that in TweakUI. Thanks for the reminder.

There are few things I hate more than a web page that automatically maximizes my browser window.

Why do you hate it? I think people like it because then the whole page with all the content fits on a single screen at a resolution of atleast 800x600 or 1024x768 or higher.

No need to add the Google Search Bar.

To make Google your default search engine from the Internet Explorer address bar, do the following:

Cut and paste the following text into Notepad.

Save the file as Google.reg

Double click the file to add it to your registry.

----------------- cut & paste ---------------------------------

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"Search Page"="http://www.google.com"
"Search Bar"="http://www.google.com/ie"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL]
""="http://www.google.com/keyword/%s"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search]
"SearchAssistant"="http://www.google.com/ie"
