I've given up beef this last year because of mad cow disease (it only seems silly now!), so what is a good alternative? I've crossed out chicken and fish, but pork ribs will be served. Anyone experiment with grilled buffalo or ostrich?

Eat beef and stop being such an idiot.

I wish could. I really miss New york steaks, carne asada, mignon, oh man....

unfortunately I'm a virologist with too much knowledge of prion biology for my own good...:(

Explain.

What do you know about it that we don't?

Plus, you can always get organic beef.

I'd say there are many other reasons to avoid beef than worrying about getting CJD.

Butterfly chops.

YUM!

Not better than beef though.

As for beef, isn't it very difficult to get MCD from "solid" cuts like sirloin or ribeye?

if you cook the beef all the way through you don't have to worry about the mad cow disease, cook your steaks well done, and make sure you have no pink in them same with burgers.

no beef fish or chicken, eh? That leaves... tomatoes, corn... can't think of any protien that I would enjoy that fits your list...

I was thinking of BBQ Salmon Steaks when I read the thread topic... if you're near the oceans and can get fresh salmon... there is nothing like it; but then again, it's fish

Wrong.

And a complete waste of good meat, too.

Um, obviously not enough.

Believe me, there is never enough!;)

anyway, I'm not trashing beef. I'll eat it if friends serve it, but I won't serve it to friends. I just wanted suggestions on other grillables. Shrimp is good but expensive.

The problem is, you're being irrational. The sooner you realize that, the better off you'll be.

Explain why you don't want to eat it, then.

Shouldn't organic beef be free of MCD?

If your phobias are so severe that they prevent you from eating beef, how on earth do you manage to function in society? It's quite clearly FAR more dangerous to drive, go outdoors or even enter your own bathroom than it is to eat beef.
