I don't buy the cheap dirty brown potatos. I only buy the red potatos because they're more flavorful and yummier. I like my rice in mexican food.

does rice contain protein?
Yes.

A 1 cup serving of white short grain rice, cooked, contains 4g of protein.

And a 1 cup serving of brown long grain rice, cooked, contains 5g.

Probably potatoes. People in Asia who eat rice develop a vitamin deficiency disorder(not enough Vitamin D I think).

but people in america who eat potatoes w/ bacon bits, cheese, sour cream, cheese, chives with more cheese develop a obesity disorder.

asian teenagers HATE rice with a passion

That's cuz their parents are getting owned by them. Be a good AZN dad and BEAT the living sense into them until they can't move.

i think i found my new hero...

You can't just eat rice or potato alone.
It's what you add to the rice or potato that makes it good.

A paella would be n times better than french fries.

Neither are good for you- no fiber and all starch. Your body sees starch as sugar, which means lots of energy to burn off.

yeah, sort of like how gasoline is bad for cars, because of all that energy you have to burn off...

Since when did energy become "bad"? Do you people do ANY physical activity?

Yes, but when you eat starches with every meal, you might as well substitute a candy bar for the potato. When you put too much gas into your fuel tank, it's not good. Same thing here.

If you put too much gas, the tank will overflow. The car won't get fat!

lol, some hilarious comments so far. White rice is probably one of the most natural foods to me...eating it is second nature. Granted, potatoes are far more flexible in what you can do with it, but ah well.

I'll have both. Just usually not together.

Rice.

In fact, rice is one of the few things that you can't EVER eat too much of.

Meaning you can eat as much as you want and it will not have any detrimental effects.

Precisely. They're great for filling you up on the cheap and keeping your energy high. Of course, you do have to actually use that energy.

Farmers and the like have been eating high-starch and high protein diets for ages. As long as you're using the energy, there's nothing bad at all about potatos or any other starchy foods. Heck, even a heavy bacon and egg breakfast with hashbrowns and toast every morning isn't going to do you any harm if you're actually active and don't sit on your arse every day.
