pay, are you endorsing rdram??? Cause the 4g4a mobo by epox is an i845e mobo for the ddr platform....

Do you plan on ocing and see if this baby can get to 2.8ghz???

If so don't get rdram it is likley to give you little headroom to oc....

If no ocing you could get say an p4s533 sis645dx chipset which has a 4:6 ratio so you could run 400mhz ddr at 133fsb and those speeds will put you in neglible territory with the hated rambus....

that's a good suggestion. To expand on it; instead of getting a p4b and the asus p4s533, you could get same and a 1.8a. I have this board and simply running the FSB at 133 will run the chip at 2.4ghz. Most will be able to handle default voltage no problem. 1.6a @ 2.13 is guaraneed* with default voltage

*not a guarantee

P4 definitely...right now its the fastest performing processor out there. I'm sure even with DDR333 it would outperform the XP in most benches.

What games do you play? The CPU dependent games (like JK2) will run noticeably faster on the p4.

Also what are you running now?

From the link that "Pay" posted, it shows the Athlon XP 2200+ beating the P4 2.4 on the Unreal Performance test, and the Athlon costs nearly 150 dollars less as seen on pricewatch. The Unreal Performance test is the most important test for testing top of the line systems right now. Who gives a hoot if you can run quake3 at 300 fps instead of 250 fps or whatever. Actually they tested (XP2100+, P4 2.4)pretty close on the 3 games they used to test in the article. Very close. The main difference between the two is $150. If, your going to overclock, then you want to get the 1.8 anyway. It's cheaper by about $25 at pricewatch and if you can overclock it to 2.4 you'll be running neck and neck again with the AMD XP2200+ for $25 less. If it doesn't OC to 2.4, well too bad. Should be able to get 2.2 anyway.

Lets factor in cost!!!! Then the Athlon XP 2200+ wins hands down! How much are the 533fsb p4s going for?

I dont think a 2200+ vs a 2.4B is a fair comparision, money wise. A fairer comparision would be 2200+ vs 2.26B. They are about even, depending on how you set your p4 (Rambus, DDR). p4/Rambus will be the fastest. RDram does give you a lot of headroom to overclock, if you know what you are doing. Go to vr-zone.com, the top p4 overclockers use RDram.

For instance, if you overclock a 1.6a to 175FSB ( i've seen a few on this forum, and you use RDram, then you have 175 x 3 x 2 = PC1050 RDram, no where near its limitation).

I wouldnt recommend a Sis645DX board, go for i845G or E or i850/i850e based board.

The 2.4/533 is a better choice. But, as others have mentioned, an even better choice is the 2.26/533 which will do 2.4 quite easily for less money. :)

The P4 should be better overall. If you're really strapped for cash get the Palomino, otherwise get the P4 system.
