Of course I'm probably going to get mixed answers here, but I would like to know which one has a better gameplay to it. Which one has the best story line? I know both have superb graphics, so either one there.

Ya, half life 2 really raised the bar just as hl1 did. Far Cry is a great game but half life 2 really gets you thinking. Graphics are great in both, but far cry added the ability to use folage for cover, I cant even begin to describe what all HL2 added, Its the closest you will come to full interactivy. Its just the best as far as gameplay goes. Too many bases to cover, like you will get involved with these girls, there become so real. Just a lot of levels that this game will hit you with.

By the end of HL2 I was definitely eager to pound the daylights out of the main antagonist  and also a certain other person (trying not to spoil this), and felt like all the main characters had a lot of character to them. It was immersive, and the "puzzles" weren't obnoxiously pointless and difficult. I got a little tired of both vehicle sections, though.

FarCry tried for that and really didn't pull it off, but it was still fun to play. :) FarCry is also less linear and forced than HL2, you can roam around more.

HL2 has a better story, most of the maps are pretty linear. HL2's multiplayer (CS:S because HL2: DM isnt' great) is far superior.

Far Cry's single player has much more replayability due to the countless way to accomplish the objectives. The story line itself kidna sucked though.

I actually feel that HL2 had more replayability, but that's just me. FarCry lost my attention very fast as I didn't like the feel of the movement and aiming. The character felt sluggish for some reason... I can't really explain it. HL2 had a decent story, great graphics, great fun, and of course an expansion pack due out very soon ;). Plus, CSS can't be beat as far as quick pickup online fun.

HL2, like the others say. But if you haven't played Far Cry, I highly recommend it, it's a great, and beautiful, game.

FarCry is a cool eye candy game. The story was pretty lame though. Multiplayer is fun if you get alot of players going cause the maps are HUGE. I like the "feel" of HL2 better. FarCry feels like it's on speed or something.

HL2, no contest

The only thing FarCry got going for it is the eye candy. Everything else like story and voice acting are lame.

I wouldn't say that. Gameplay and enemy AI were good too, IMO. As you said, the environments were attractive, but they were also huge. And the size left the player many options and strategies when it came to taking enemies out.

I played on the "realistic" mode and size of the environments came into play a lot during the game. The enemies were tougher and smarter, and the use of the binoc's, a sniper rifle, and night vision became not just helpful, but necessary for survival. Far Cry on realistic mode was the most difficult and fun game I have ever played.

Although, as I said before, HL2 was a better game overall. The atmosphere, the 1984ish feel of the game, was very well presented and played-out. The gravity gun, the combine, physics, and the story and characters made it a better game than FC, IMO.

hl2 is a great game experience, I remember the white light as you leave ravenhome, I was so shell-shocked by that point, I just ran towards it, farcry is great, large open spaces but hl2 is better

I admit I finished Far Cry on the hardest level and it took me two months (DON'T LAUGH AT ME!!!). But I had to cheat on that one level where the woman drives the jeep and you have to shoot everything while bouncing around. That level alone I spent two weeks on, no matter what some damn sniper would get me before I could even see him, so I turned on godmode until I got past that one checkpoint then turned it off. Of course it probably doesn't help that I start to drink when I play a game, so after an hour or so I am pretty drunk.

I haven't played HL2 yet, I can't afford all that beer yet.

Far Cry has the best long range draw I've seen, but as folks have said here HL2 is a better game.
If you consider yourself any sort of an avid FPS gamer though, you will play both...

The hardest one for me on Realistic difficulty was near the end when I'm trapped in that hallway with the pillars and the hologram displays, because there's no way to retreat and use the divide-&-conquer strategy.

HL2 is better, but Far Cry is definitely worth playing. Especially now that it's $20, a steal.

Why not both? :D Farcry 1v1 at a LAN party is so much fun. You like hunt eachother. Steam sucks. CounterStrike: Source is alot of fun. HL2 is very linear but still fun enough to play though twice. The physics are great.

FC has the better overall weapons selection (heaven for long range tactics). There's still no comparison to HL2's gravity gun though.

Difficulty-wise there's nothing quite like FC's monkey trigens and that insane 1-on-1 battle with the attack chopper, but HL2's bestiary has better variety and more consistent fun throughout.

The open feel, draw distance, and challenge of Far Cry was better then Half Life 2. I am also not a fan of Steam. Valve seems to want to screw everyone who bought the game at retail. On top of that why didn't Valve discount the game when selling it from their site as a download? I was able to get HL2 at BB for $35 (bronze). Through Steam you get to pay the maximum price possible and that is messed up.
