I'm still gonna get an NVIDIA 5900SE tho cause it does better on JKJA, which I have.
It might be wise to think about more than one game before you make a purchase decision.

Yeah, but the games that ATI did better on are not games that I'm particularily interested in.

You're not interested in any DirectX 9 titles?

LOL. I don't think you quite understand what I'm saying.

(1) Current ATi cards will generally run titles that use DirectX 9 features (whether they're OpenGL or Direct3D) better than nVidia's current cards will.
(2) Those games aren't the only titles in existance.

So basically if you only plan on playing the games you listed for the rest of your life and you never plan on picking up any new titles again, you've made the right choice.

Not only that but ATi is generally faster and has higher IQ when the details and AA/AF are cranked, so it could well be that ATi is better even in the games you listed.

Wait and see what the new cores are like before you upgrade... unless you're using a GeForce2 or worse and are dying to play Call of Duty or somethin, don't upgrade yet.

However, on Anand, NVIDIA generally performed better on OpenGL games and two of those games were: Neverwinter Nights, which I'm interested in and JKJA, which I have and both are DX 9.0. I also want KotOR which is OpenGL and by LucasArts. Plus there's the fact that I'm on a budget and the 5900SE far outperforms the ATI 9600XT, which costs the same. So It's better bang for the buck too.

I do have a GF 2 GTS, and the eVGA 5900SE comes w/ a coupon for CoD:(

The main reason I'm upgrading my computer is so that I can play newer games. I have a Celeron 633Mhz and a GF 2 for crying out loud!! Please tell me what you think of my future computer.

Neither are DirectX 9 titles; they're DirectX 8.1 at most.

Then why does LucasArts.com list as a system requirement for JKJA, DX 9.0a compatible.

Look at the link in my sig to see what I'm upgrading to.

Because that's the version of DirectX they tested the game on. That doesn't mean that it's actually using DirectX 9 features (i.e. PS/VS 2.0).

Kotor is a OpenGL title? Its an Xbox game, and I thought that one had to use the XBox SDK which was based on DX8....

which means its a DX title

There isn't really a ones better than the other the two are pretty comparable at the moment. ATI is better at antialiasing, and doesn't cheat on 3dmark (not to bring that stupidity up again, but)... thats why I chose an ATI video card this time. But the GeForce FX is good as well. Though it will take up an extra pci slot... I would say that its all a matter of personal preferance. If you are a fan of nVidia, then go with them, if you are a fan of ATI then get their video card. Right now their performance is pretty similar in most games that are out there. Supposedly ATI will be faster in Halflife 2, and nVidia will be faster in Doom 3, but neither game is out yet so there is no way to tell for sure.

I just looked on LucasArts and once again both OpenGL 1.4 and DX 9.0 are requirements. I believe that NVIDIA does better on LucasArts games based on the fact that JKJA does better on NVIDIA cards. Does any one have any experience w/ the performance of LucasArts on ATI cards vs. NVIDIA cards?

Wow... a flame war!

Let me sum up some of the previous ones.

ATI fanboys enter
Nvidia fanboys enter
Others enter to join in on the fight

ATI attacks
Nvidia attacks
Others pick sides

One side has a loss
Other side has a loss

Everyone leaves with the same opinions that they started with

Some guy comes in and posts this message

Seriously, I haven't read this thread but by the way it looks, if it hasn't already, it will be a flame war soon. Guys, if its not there yet, keep this a discussion so that these types of threads aren't banned from the Video section. Also, do realize that 90% of the people who read/engage in these threads won't change their opinion, and thats a fact, I know from having started one flame war that went on for 8 or 10 pages when I was new here, luckily, I changed my opinion.

Again, I haven't read this thread but it seems like a flame war or a thread that will become one. Just remember, each card has its own good and bad points, neither of the cards is better in every area, and there will always be people buying them because there are some things each excels at beating the other.

Just my $.02

They are so close it's really a matter of preference.... BUT!!
I prefer ATI........ Although NVidia is a fine product.. I have chosen to never buy any of their products because
of the takeover, rape, and destruction of MY personal favorite... former undisputed champion of video cards, 3dFX.

me dons fireproof suit.................
