whats better, 9600XT or a 5700ultra?? POLL

9600XT has stronger direct-x performance, 5700 Ultra has better Open GL performance, in any game other than 3dmark05, you prolly wouldn't notice the difference between the two, either one would be fine, just get what's cheaper. And buy from a good brand.

good answer!

If you are considering buying either of them, forget it, and pick up 9700Pro for $150.

As far as answering your question, this Massive Review should answer your question for "overall" better performance and/or specific games you are looking for.

Good Idea. The 5700U is generally speaking a better performer except when doing Pixel Shading. When doing pixel shading dont even bother crying... cause it is way past tears (ie 3dMark 05).

So yes the 5700U is a better performer but it is more on older games that dont use many shaders.

where can you buy a 9700pro for 150?? is it from a reputable dealer?? is the unit used or new, refurbished??

also, i think the 5700ultra is going for a higher price than the 9600pro.

There was a deal a while ago on a 130$ 5700 Ultra, I don't recall the website, maybe Chumbo? That would be a great price for this card.
The 5700 U is faster in general than the 9600XT except in intensive DX9 titles, such as Half-Life 2 and FarCry. (it runs on DX8.1 by default on HL2 by the way)

Oh, and i would agree with this guy. The 5700u has one weakness, ps2.0 shaders. If the game isnt extremely heavy (heavier then anything we really have out today in terms of games) then it will crumble. Other then that, it seems to be a bit above the 9600xt in various other tests while matching it, or barely losing in the remainder.

You can get a used 5900 easily for $150.
I think 5900 should easily beat the 9700pro.
Maybe not in heavy PS2.0 games, but it runs most games out significantly faster, especially after being flashed/OC'ed to 5900U/5950.

allstarshop. has a 7 rating at resellerratings, and the 149 card is out of stock. thats why i don't use pricewatch. the lowest price is usually from a reseller that has very poor ratings, or it is already out of stock.

Overall the 9600XT is a little faster. Has better IQ.

The 9600XT has a much faster shader engine so it?s better equipped to handle the new games like HL2, Painkiller?etc. Take Joint Operations, a new DX9 game ?THG-Joint Operations

9800pro ?54.2
5950U ?34.8
9600XT?33.9
5900XT ? 28.3
5700U ? 23.1

Games are using more and more shaders all the time -- so looking forward the 9600XT will be a much better card.

The other problem with the FX cards is that they take a big performance hit with AF compared to the R300?s. NV has remedied the problem somewhat with new drivers -- but at the expense of IQ.

This sums things up pretty good?
xbit

ATI RADEON 9600 XT. With disabled full-screen anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering it outperforms its competitors on NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700 Ultra in the majority of benchmarks due to faster DirectX9 pixel shaders performance and higher VPU frequency. But in heavy modes, with enabled FSAA and AF NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700 Ultra manages to take revenge very often due to higher memory bus bandwidth and aggressive anisotropic filtering optimizations.

You can try AllstarShop (85% positive feedback) = $158
it's temporarily out of stock though but should be available shortly.

$159

Also you might want to check VGA Charts IV
