Not to mention individual liberty. Conservatives are the guardians of freedom.
Except when it concerns the vagina. Or education (even sex education for that matter), especially when science is involved. Or religion...gotta infuse that into our policies, so you don't REALLY have religious freedom...kinda goes back to the vagina thing. Or drugs...generally most things we can do to our bodies that they don't like. Or other countries for that matter...they tend to like to get involved in matters BECUZ 'MURICA AND FREEDOM.
Conservatives only advocate freedom when it benefits wealthy, white, Christian men, especially if they are running a business.
I really hope you were joking when you said that.
The left still doesn't get it. We aren't terrified that the ACA is going to work, we are terrified of the damage it could inflict on the economy after its implementation. There are a lot of people still struggleing with this economy so how in the hell is slapping them with a mandatory purchase in the hundreds of dollars or more every month going to help them? Oh don't worry, you will get a tax credit 16 months later.
You are terrified because you were told to be terrified about the thought that the ACA could ruin the country. You are going off of a "what if" situation that's based on fear and sold in the same package (very little in logic) and have elected representatives that instead of trying to work with it chose to fight its entirety and shut down the government when they don't get their way having been told many, many times in the past 3 years.
Not to mention that the fine for not getting coverage is $95 in 2014, $325 in 2015, and $695 in 2016+ (this is for an adult individual...the first year is up to $285 for a family). This is not some financial brick wall that is going to hit the uninsured in 2014, and it gives people a year or two to see how things will turn out (though, in theory, things will be better the more people that get covered).
You also forgot to mention government subsidies. I believe you can qualify if you're up to 400% of the poverty level (about 45K a year, I think, for a single adult like myself). Those will help. I do not qualify, but I checked the exchange for CO. I could still easily afford health insurance even if my employer dropped my coverage. Costs were quite reasonable, I thought.
Also, you can get advanced funding immediately for those tax credits. If the advanced funds don't cover all your tax credit, you'll get the remainder in the actual tax credit. I did read it is possible to get more funds, in which case you have to pay back the remainder when you would have received the tax credit otherwise.
But, I mean, if you want to simplify things down and eat up the fear conservatives are selling you, that's your choice.
(note: nowhere did I say ACA would cost less, the same, or more...It will probably cost more, but I'm not thinking it will quite ruin America like many are sold on)
