What's been going on with me

I now have an appointment later this month at Stanford. 😀 😀 It's a drive, but at this point, I really don't care as long as I'm getting treated. I saw my doc and she gave me pill-form Morphine (Kadian), some meds for my stomach, and (ew) rectal suppositories for nausea. The Kadian helps relax my stomach (my stomach is in like one huge cramp otherwise) which, in turn, helps me eat. Since then, I've actually been able to eat a little. She suggested Ritz crackers and since then I've eaten over a sleeve of 'em. W007! I've been able to eat the liquid/stew part of beef stew along with some of the carrots as well.

Thank you for all the thoughts, I appreciate them all. 🙂

I've not had Ensure. The shakes I made were with protein powder, Sugar-Free Carnation Instant Breakfast, and fat free milk. I've been avoiding those, though, because of the milk. It can really hurt my stomach. . . .especially now. Like I said up there, though, I'm able now to munch on a little bit of beef stew. My friend got worried about me and went to the store and got me some Pedialyte lol.

My int4rw3bz got brokted for like two days, so I hadn't been online. Those of you that have my cell number are free to call. I have Verizon, so if you do too...no problem. If you don't, call after 9:00 so it's free. (I'm not a tightwad, but having to make all these calls is chewing through the minutes. Grrrrr) 🙂

Wish you well, FYI dmcowen is using you as political fodder in P&N.

😕 Where?

You need some nutrition. Drinking Pedialyte will help you with dehydration and loss of electrolytes, but you need nutrients. Buy some kind of meal replacement shake, like Ensure (there are several brands including generics.) People can survive almost indefinitely consuming nothing but those things. Get your roommate to pick some up. I'd go buy them for you myself and stay to make sure you drank them if I could. 🙂

Get well soon, hzl.

I tihnk some people find ensure to be a little too... whats the word... Rich?

Try mixing it with some soy milk or something.

EDIT: Oh yea, how does your stomach take to tofu? You could also try things like very fine oatmeal/cream of wheat, or make some rice porridge.

You call that fodder? 😕

Glad you're able to eat something nutritional and have that appointment.

I didn't call it fodder. I was pointing her to the thread because she asked what JS80 was talking about. You should have already PMed her a link yourself and perhaps given her the choice about whether to be at the center of a P&N debate. That's just my opinion.

I don't care if I'm in another thread. It wouldn't be the first time. 😉 I don't think he meant it the wrong way, anyway.

I've tried like a generic version of Ensure before and it almost gagged me. I'll have to try it again some time. I bought some tofu a little while ago, but haven't tried it yet. I need to see if it's still good and figure out how to prepare it.

Still eating the stew with the carrots and potatoes and stuff. Feel a little more nauseated today, but still not as bad as the other day. 🙂

Hang in there doll...this is exactly why I've discouraged my wife from having this surgery. Stories like this are FAR too common. A MUCH better alternative is the stomach banding technique (lap-band), where there is NO cutting or by-passiing of the digestive system, just an inflatable band that divides the stomach into 2 compartments.

PLEASE keep us informed on what they have to say at Stanford. We're ALL pulling for ya....
(with the last batch of pics, some of the younger members may be REALLY pulling for ya...😉

Well I'm back home. I was admitted to the hospital for like three or four days. I was going to have to go to Stanford on the 24th, but it looks like I may not have to. (I'm hoping I won't have to.) I had a small bowel obstruction and thank God it's gone now. I was nauseated and throwing up and in paaaiiiiin! UGH I'm slowly working my way back into food now.

This is WAY short, but I wanted you all to know that I'm doing better. <3
