It's for a cover letter. I don't want to use attend twice, but I can't find a word to use instead:

Here's the sentence:

"To learn more about current trends, I attended the 2008 Annual American Library Association Conference in Chicago, attending sessions on screen casting, library instruction, and reference research projects. "

Any ideas?

I like this one best, so far, but they were more lecture than group sessions

Does this sound professional enough?---

^ best suggestion so far, but cut out the "being"

"participated in" sessions could also work but seems inaccurate if all you did was sit and listen.

I agree with this.

Doesn't really work, because there were hundreds of sessions. I attended sessions that were directly related to my career path, which I'm trying to emphasize.

I'm leaning towards participate. Do you guys think it's ok that they were mostly lectures & to use 'participate?'

Without reading above replies (sorry, want it to flow without influence).

"To learn more about current trends, I attended the 2008 Annual American Library Association Conference in Chicago, attending sessions on screen casting, library instruction, and reference research projects. "

After participating in the 2008 AALACC (*my abbreviation*, spell it out) and hearing from other colleagues I have a firm understanding of screen casting, library instruction, and reference research projects. This re-confirmed my previous experience.

-edit-
scrap that

My understanding and vision of screen casting, library instruction, and reference research projects was confirmed After participating in the 2008 AALACC (*my abbreviation*, spell it out) and hearing from other colleagues.

"To pro-actively implement my personal development plan in pursuit of well defined achievement objectives, I facilitated my own participation the 2008 Annual American Library Association Conference in Chicago where professionally orientated sessions on screen casting, library-based instructive learning, and distance-based reference research projects were presented, allowing a socially diverse, pre-informed audience to assemble a toolbox of concise, knowledge-based, factual information products concerning the universe of current trends."
