Is it bad to do pushup and situp training every day? I've just been doing sets, and maxing out on the last set. I have like 16 weeks to build, so as long as i keep going up slowly, i'll be fine :p

I've been building on a system here

Plan

items that are not listed are the crunches and pushups. Those I do when i have time and feel up to it, but I like to do the pyramid scheme. Working up and down. I also just spin on a trainer instead of riding, since its soooooo cold outside.

Best way to increase number of pushups is to do some weight training. Bench press, military press, and tricep stuff. If that isn't an option, I recommend doing 3-4 sets of pushups every 3 days (one on, two off). Do the first set as a warmup, all the other sets to failure.

Your muscles need time off to recuperate. Resting is as important as training.

In my opinion - and I've been training over 17 yrs - the best isolation movement for the abdominal region is slow crunches over a Swiss Ball.

very steady plan, although ig you're starting from scratch, start lower...i like the failure idea too, if you can push yourself that hard...i know i'll never do that again, after years of wrestling heh.

Isn't it one of those inflated exercise balls? I actually prefer changing my ab routine at every workout, for variety and hitting different areas.
Some Atlas chair, some Russian twists, some more medicine ball exercises, mebbe ab roller, crunch machine, etcetc.

beauty... thats pretty much exactly what im doing.. 3 sets of each, and i max the last set of pushups (thats what i hurt in the most) i'll increase over time. Then do a 2 mile run afterwords, i figure that 140 days of doing those 3 things, and i'll be just fine.

Did you know that researchers have managed to breed fruit flies that live 5 times longer? They do it by not letting them breed for 3 days, then with the next generation, they don't let them breed for 3.5 days, then 4 days, then 4.5 days etc... Before long, they had fruit flies that actually would live 5 times longer. Amazing, isn't it?

when you max out to failure...force yourself to hold the last rep for at least 10 to 15 secs...

incremental progress.. :)

Try breakdancing and try the Turtle position for 1 second, then the next day hold it as long as possible, and the next day even longer, etc. etc. That's only for abs though.

btw, turtle is when you hold up your body by balancing on just your arms /w your elbows against your abs.
