podcast is a misleading term, should be "Internet Radio Shows" or something. and yes general FM radio sucks horribly.

my thought, too. why do we have to come up with a different word for talk-radio mp3's? Why not just call them "mp3's?"

I just listen to the radio. Have no need for a podcast, whatever that is.

Exactly
I simply do not understand the "lure" of podcasts at all.

They Might Be Giants' podcast is full of non-album tracks, alternate versions of songs, and amusing skits.

I know what a podcast Is, but I've surely never listened to one, at least never listened to one called a podcast. TBH the relationship with an IPOD there just completely turns me off to the whole idea even though I know it has nothing to do with IPODs. I personally consider it somewhat a lose of my manhood that I even know what a podcast is and that I actually read blogs and such. I don't think it really is nescecarry to understand these things to be technically savy tough. I remember always hearing the news people talk about "blogging" and "podcasts" and "RSS feeds" and never knew that they meant, but I can assure you I know more about computers than they could ever hope to know. IT took me awhile to learn that they were all just stupid new names for things that had been done for years before.

Here's the difference: I like TV. I hate talk radio.

Talk radio with download wait times, even-lower-than-normal production values, etc. is even worse than ordinary talk radio. No amount of DVR-like improvements can save that.

I'm sure some numbnuts journalist overly enamored with the iPod coined the term.

The only time I use the term is when I'm explaining the meaning of "podcast" to someone else.

iDetest all the iShit these days too ... like CNN's iReporters

The word podcast is supposed to be a play on "broadcast" AFAIK
I also do not like the "pod" connotation, I've had a few people ask me if you have to have an ipod to listen to a podcast :(
I'm sure Apple doesn't mind that one bit.
