Put him in a ziplock bag and put him in the freezer. If he's a tropical fish he'll likely die quickly and painlessly (or well... relatively painlessly?).

Agreed... This will slow down their system and they will eventually pass...

About as humane as you can get.

yes. for death panelty, lets freeze ppl to death, it must be the most humane way of killing one
You can't really compare humans and fish, one is hot blooded, the other is not.

I got great pleasure out of taking a salt water fish out of the tank and putting him a big bowl of fresh water.

take that you little bastard!

as far as humane, put him in the freezer.

how is that humane???

ever freeze part of your body? i guess that was painless for u freaks?!

Actually, it hurts when you unzreeze, the freezing is not so bad. Plus, I thought fish couldn't feel pain anyway.

step by step
1)take fish
2)lay fish flat on table
3)Take nonserrated knife
4)chop fish's head off

Well, I'm sure the OP would love to try lethal injection for his fish, but I think he'd be hard pressed to find pentothal and pavulon in his kitchen cabinet.

See phisrow's link. You can buy the anesthetic at aquaculture supply places and you don't have to inject it; just mix it into the water.

EDIT: Of course, I'd try medicating the fish first... it might be something easily curable like fin rot.
