bother? it was so much easier to print out their registry and find something simple and in my price range than trying to think of something.

Things really change by location. I'm in Nebraska and everyone gives something worth about $25 to their good friends and close relatives (less if you aren't). Then go to some places like Chicago and at every wedding I've been to there people gave about $100 on average just to a friend of a friend.

And as a married person myself, we liked the cash gifts the most. No returns, no useless crap, no ugly household decorations that we cannot get rid of since the giver will notice...

its not a matter of bothering......these are things they WANT. Pick something off of the registry and stop being such a dumbass.

Who cares what is expected? You're not buying their friendship, just showing them you care.

No crockpots. I got 6 at my wedding + wife's wedding shower.

we got enought towels/sheets that we are still using them today (15 years later)

we got 3-4 sets of silverware, one set is still in the original package, in another 5-10 years we will open it up

the 2-3 crockpots we got have all died by now, but i think we returned 1 of them

Play it safe. Cash is the gift that no one wants to ask for, but everyone wants.
