What's a good USB modem?

I'm looking for a new modem to replace my Aztech USB v.90 which has a few very irritating quirks. I want a USB model, because I don't want the additional IRQ associated with internal modems, and I don't want to have to refresh my device manager everytime I turn on an external serial modem in Win2K.

I heard the Diamond Supra Express 56K USB is a good model, and furthermore it is a true hardware modem, but I remember someone on this forum saying that the Win2K drivers are still buggy. If so, is there any good USB modem that is worth getting? Or is the Supra Express the best USB modem to buy?

Thanks,

Yeah, I had the supra it?s a good modem by its hardware. But diamonds drivers do kinda suck. After lighting fried the Supra I went with the Boca Research USB tital Wave. It?s also a true hardware modem so have to worry about it eating your CPU cycles. The only problem that I've had with it is that it picks up every time the system goes in to standby mode. Running it through a hub might fix that but I haven?t taken the time to hook it up that way. Other then that it?s a great modem.

Many of them don't have w2k driver. Diamond beta w2k driver is buggy, crashed my system when I installed it. Just tried a Buslink, and its w2k driver works fine. Not too many places sell them, but I found one at http://www.csorlando.com/ - if it's not listed on the web site send him an email - he's probably got some left.

I purchased a Buslink USB modem a couple of days ago from pat@csorlando.com - Actually, I won it in a dutch auction on E*bay. I'm happy to see that it works well. I had thought that this would be a good solution for those times that my cable internet service is down. I'm curious whether this is a true hardware modem or more similar to a Winmodem.

Buslink's web site:

Appears that it is Flash Rom upgradeable which I would assume would make it possible to upgrade it to V.92

Mine was $38, including shipping - about $17 cheaper than Pricewatch. Mine arrived on my doorstep within 3 days - can't complain about that. As of Monday, they had at least 4 left. Phone # for Computer Station of Orlando:407-323-4044
