now that i'm getting my place...(sorry for all the threads) a new GOOD tv is a must...what's good?

i was thinking about the 36 wega model...i think its the 36fv26...is it worth it??
if not that, i was looking into the HDTV panasonic 32 inch. if i had my was i would get the XBR..litle TOO pricey!!

oh yeah, my buddy's dad is a tv repair person and he told me that its never worth getting anything besides sony cause of quality, repairablility, and resale value....is this true form anyones experience???

I think maybe the high end Sony's are ok, but the general concensus among friends/family is that Sony stuff generally sucks. If you want a tube tv, go check out Panasonic and Toshiba. If you want projection, try Mitsubishi. All make hi-def units to if that's your thing.

I have the 32" Wega XBR400 and it's very nice. You might be able to haggle the price down on a 36" XBR at The Good Guys by pricematching another place (If it's cheaper) or asking for no sales tax since ordering online from them gets you no sales tax most times. 🙂

heh.. Sony until just recently had really the only high-end audio/videophile TV set made in the Wega. The panasonic PURE flat is very nice as well now though.

For normal tube, I buy sony all the way. Their CRT tech has only just been matched lately. In the price range of ~$400 nothing can beat my 27" trinitron in terms of picture quality.

Most of the TV makers out there suck ass, when you get into high-end stuff. It's only been recently that anyone has gotten close to them. Go ask your local audio king/whoever sales guy what he recommends, they usually know their stuff if you get a good one.

I have the KV-36FV26... very nice set. I got a good deal on it at Sears. They pricematched a price I got from the Internet. The flat Panasonic's were just becoming available at the time I got the Wega, they looked very nice. I would give good cosideration to those because they have HDTV capability...

I have had many Sony TV's. Currently have 32XBR100. Five years old. Never a problem. Makes good broadcast TV signal look almost like Laser Disc/DVD. Buy their best model in the size you want! You definitely get what you pay for.

I have a Wega model KV-27FS12. I really like it, but I wish I could of gotten a bigger one. The only differences between the FV26 and FS12 are the speakers, PiP, and a better comb filter on the FV26 line. Those all seemed useless to me as I 'll be getting HT speakers, I never use PiP, and only use S-Video and component inputs on the TV, which bypass the comb filter... My recommendation would be the KV-36FS12

My 32" XBR400 was around $1750. Good Guys wouldn't give a full price match with J&R (They had it for around $1500) but did partial, and I got the no tax thing, though I'm in CA. Had to buy the stand also, another $200 or so. Under $2000 total though.. 🙂
