This is really old, but I recently came accross someone who considers sucks to be cussing. I was like, well what would you rather I say? I could only think of things like blows, bites, etc, at the time. Thanks for stinks, lol. I'm 30+ though and use sucks a lot.

You would probably hear: That's horrible; extremely awful; absurd; patently ridiculous; tacky; repulsive, ghastly; rank; aesthetically displeasing; hypocritical; typically Republican (Democratic, Male, Female, etc); exhausting; tediously dull; inane........

...depending upon what exactly they mean.

Or, they might just roll their eyes.

Do some of you posters even bother to read the question before you answer? A good synonym for the word "sucks" to use with older people is "stinks," as one astute poster already observed. Like, "it stinks that you guys don't read the questions before you answer them."
