Whats a good store that sells LED's and cold cathodes?

SVC.com has cold cathodes. LEDs you can get at radioshack or ledshoppe dot com (EDIT why did it turn it into stars when I had the .com ending on it? 😕 ) but they sell them in bulk. Ebay of course is a great place to find stuff.
 
Also i should have said that I'm from Canada so if you guys do give me links could you tell me if it ships to Canada.

linky doesn't work because for some reason AT doesn't like ledshoppe with the .com attached to the end 😕 you do realize that is a pack of 500 right? 😉 I'll bet being a blue LED it'll be pretty bright, I haven't found a dim one yet.

In order to figure out what resistor you need, what voltage you gonna run off of? 5V, 12V?

Also ... i think its a good price.

Anyway as for the power...you see i am trying to follow this guide here!

So for the power i don't want to blow the LED so...well i don't know what do you recomend?

I was thinking about 5v-7v(that would be enough with out using too much power.
 
OK so 5V. Use This resistor calculator referenced on the site - make sure you use the one for LEDs in parallel. For those LEDs from ledshoppe .com you would put in 3.5 volts for the drop across each LED, 25 milliamps for the desired LED current, and then how many LEDs you will have connected. So if you had 8 LEDs you would need a 10 ohm resistor with a power rating of 0.4 watts.

I got those numbers from the ledshoppe .com website, under forward voltage and max continuous forward current - I took a middle of the road voltage between the two values given and 5mA less than the max continuous current.

This is great for me because I've been looking for an easy way to calculate what resistors I need for some LED mods, thank you 🙂

Also so all i would need to do is :

1. connect all 8 leds in parallel
2. find 1(one) 10 Ohm resister with a power rating of 0.4 watts.

Also when looking for a resister i know how to read it (look at the color'd bands arround it) so the 10 Ohm part is okay but how will i know if it is a 0.4 watts?
 
I'm thanking you because I never found an easy way to calculate the resistors needed. Your link to that guide gave me what I needed 🙂

I never ordered from ledshoppe .com but others here have and my friend got an LED flashlight from them. It was hassle-free 🙂

When buying a resistor they should tell you what power rating it is. 0.4 is slightly strange, 1/2 watt is a standard value. It'll be a relatively fat resistor, not those tiny little things. should be about 1/8" diameter I think, maybe 1/4" - when in doubt, use the larger one 😀

Yes. If you hook up a resistor to every single LED they would have to be 68 ohm resistors.

No no no, i don't think you understand me.....I am asking you if i should just hook up thouse "8" LED's to "1" 10 Ohm resistor

OR

use 8 LED's and hook them each to "8" 10 Ohm resisters.

So basiclly do i use "1" resister with thouse "8" LED's or do i use "8" 10 Ohm resisters with thouse "8" LED's.

OK, they're not cheap and they don't have free shipping.

But when I LEDed my Xbox I got my LEDs from luxeonstar.com.

I think I used 3 LEDs (royal blue side-shooting star) in series with a 2W 6-and-a-bit Ohm resistor (actually I think I used 2 1W 3.3 Ohm ones to spread the heat) spliced into the 12 V line. The LEDs were then thermal epoxyed onto the metal shielding of the Xbox which acts as both support and heatsink.
