since nobody has mentioned it.. go on napster search for ultimate bass test. Really gives your sub a work out.

You guys are missing the point. He's not asking for your favorite song, he's asking for a song that will show the clarity of his sound card. Rap music and electroic music sound sterile and are fake to begin with. They do not show whether a system can reproduce accurately (and no, LOTS of bass is not accurate unless it was recorded that way). I suggested Dave Matthews not because I like him but because his recordings are clear and are not over-produced in such a way as to detract from the clarity of the insturments themselves. That means no distorted guitars, no fake syths, no wooshy effects. You want something recognizable. Just because a system has artificial bass and treble boosts does not make it clear. That's why AIWA sucks -- it might shake your window, but who cares if it sounds like sh*t?

Try some of the Metallica tracks from the S&M release. They've got the bass and guitars, but also the violins, flutes, and harps to fill out the high spots.

Just a few of my demo tracks and CDs:

Stargate - Soundtrack
The Fifth Element - Soundtrack
The Lion King - Tracks 6 through 9, the instrumental stuff...
REM - Lotus
Yanni - Live at the Acropolis
Enigma - Mea Culpa (and most of the rest of that CD)

Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen

Kate - Ben Folds Five, She dont use butter (<---- they use those piano well, and sounds good too)

All by myself - Celine Deon (altho original Eric Carman is ok too)

Interstate Love song - STP

Rain song - Led Zeppelin

Art of Life - X (japan)

that's the most i can think of now. what sound system do u have? i thought i had good setup for pc Quad setup with car subwooofer, then i tried same songs on My Dad's Infinity speakers (about 4.5 feet tall) and some old professional system... wow... no matter how loud i made it the sound didnt scratch or anything. it was more like i was swimming in sounds.

<< For sheer effect, listen to Edgar Winter's Frankenstein. The sound affects and short drum rift midway through the song will certainly show what those BA's are capable of. >>

Listen to Overkills version of that song...its ALOT better :)

You could try any DMB...they rule...but more specifically WWYSis good, try the Live at Luther College Album, or Red Rocks, or Listener, REd Rocks is good for Two Step, awesome song and great riffs, Rapunzel works, as does Warehouse.

How you like the DMB? Hopefully he won't get too pissed about MP3's (run a napster search for his name) but he lets fans bootleg his shows, that's how he got discovered. You gotta have 160 or 256 though for his songs, otherwise you lose some stuff, like that for others, but I see more loss with his music.

I'd have to second Toonces311's suggestion for Rush - Tom Sawyer, but I'm more partial to Test for Echo, Roll The Bones, or XYZZY (or whatever it's named :))

Steely Dan - Aja This song has everything in it; a good workout for the whole frequency range

If you like NiN, try some of the remixes from their new album.

Starf*ckers, Inc. (sherwood mix) - good stereo effects

The Frail (benelli mix) - string quartet, or something like that

Metal - good frequency range

Then again, even though I like Tool's Aenema album, I think one of their better songs is the Gaping Lotus Experience (off their first album). You won't find a high quality copy on napster, which is a shame.

George Krantz - Din daa daa -or-
Art of Noise - Beat Box

And why not rap? a hip hop song cant have a wide range of music in it? A bit biased if you ask me....heh

Both those songs listed were the ultimate breakdancing songs of that era, and have more creativeness and talent then alot of todays wishy/washy "alternative" music...

Biased? Of course I'm biased. Who's not biased when selecting music? Are you saying that when you go to purchase a CD, you aren't biased?

In general, I just don't care for the "bump" of rap songs. It's just too "manufactured".

Man, now i gotta annoy the neighbors again.. Let the music free!
What? too loud? hey when it´s too loud, your too old...

Seriously: Try Dream Theater: Their EP "A change of seasons". It
features their legendary 23minute- song: Seasons It is without doubt the best progressive rock song EVER recorded. Although the cd is not perfect(very few are) you won´t notice the difference on a pc system.
No matter how good the speakers...

Also: try The Corrs- Toss the feathers
For impulse test: Fear Factory- Demanufacture Album track 3

Enjoy.

Oh, and please straight from CD and not mp3...
