What's a good song to show off my PC's sound system?

Yeah, it's a little OT. But it's still hardware related.

Anyway... I'm pretty proud of my Santa Cruz and Boston Acoustics BA-4800's. I've been searching for songs to show off the range of this sound system.

Some good examples are:

Santana/Rob Thomas: Smooth
Bruce Hornsby: The Way it is
Train: Meet Virginia
Marcy's Playground: Sex & Candy
Brian Setzer Orchestra: Jump, Jive, and Wail

Now, don't take these as my musical preferences, as I actually prefer hard rock. They are just songs that have a broad range in them.

No rap, please. 😛

While many people complain about the bad words and violence in rap, they also have some of the greatest sounds (some, not all!).
 
If you want to really show off clarity classical/orchestra (I don't think I've ever written that word before so I probably spelt it wrong 😀) is the only way to go.

Just to prove that different bass instruments sound distinct and bass isn't just a dull thump and buzz 🙂 And the highs are usually well defined in orchestral types of music to.


Get some Drums and Bass type techno if you just want to show off the power of the system 🙂
 
For sheer effect, listen to Edgar Winter's Frankenstein. The sound affects and short drum rift midway through the song will certainly show what those BA's are capable of.

BTW how do you like the 4800's? I currently have the MicroMedia's, which are now called the BA790's (w/ the addition of digital input), and they make good noise <g>! I'm contemplating the new Klipsch ProMedia 2.1's, but more than a few people have suggested I first listen to the 4800's. I know this isn't comparing apples to apples, what w/ a 4.1 vs. a 2.1, but the majority of my listening is music, not games, so I'm curious as to your impression of the 4800's.
 
Temple of the Dog is a great LP to show off a system. Great range w/ great sounds, very well recorded. The best vocal, drum and piano sounds.

Tool will rock!

Rollin's Band- Weight is good.

NIN is awesome.

And how can I forget old VanHalen to show of the mid-range. 1984 and below(if Sammie's on it throw it away!).
 
Bach- Toccata &amp; fugue in D minor - but hard to find a good recording. Man now I'll be on napster all night again 😉
