It takes me forever to fall asleep. What do you guys take? What are the side effects? Can I get it over the counter?

Thanks!

Take diphenhydramine 25mg, this seems to work well. Why are you not getting any sleep?

What's keeping you up? For me it was sounds. I started sleeping with earplugs eight months ago and now I sleep like a log.

lmao. You dirty platypus.

It just takes me forever to fall asleep. I'll lay down at 12 and be awake until 2, then up at 8 for another semi-realistic day. Sometimes one of our outside dogs won't shut up, but it usually doesn't wake me up it just keeps me up. I might try earplugs. Do they fatigue your ears at all?

Well obviously you have to do something about the noise.

But equally importantly, try just going to bed at 2 instead. If you lie down when you aren't tired, you are likely to toss and turn, get hot, and get frustrated watching the clock tick by as you can't get to sleep. It is a self fullfilling problem - you can't sleep, so you get frustrated, so your frustration keeps you up, so you can't sleep, so you get frustrated... Not everyone needs nor should get 8 hours of sleep. Don't force yourself if your body says it doesn't need it.

Nothing helps sleep more than a consistant schedule. If you get to sleep sometimes at 12, other times at 1, and still other times at 2, then how is your body ever to know when to really sleep? Don't even change your schedule on weekends if possible. Once you get in a schedule, you'll find you can get to sleep most days within minutes. Note: same goes for waking up at the same time every day.

Side effect of most sleep aids is that you get addicted. Your sleep problem gets worse and worse, so you take more and more. Eventually you get to the point where you almost can't sleep at all without the drugs. They should be a once a month thing at the most. And usually by the time you realize you need them, it is too late.
