My friend and I both have linksys routers and while we'd like to assume it's our cable connection, sometimes the internet works on one computer and not the other. This line of thinking has gotten me to realize that it's probably an issue with the NAT cause I do notice the internet working again when I reset the router and the modem.. My router is a wifi router and my friend's isn't yet they still have issues. So, what kind of router should I get? Do they make hardware DHCP servers that have NAT? That way I can use the router as a hub/switch. I considered using one of my older computers as a firewall AND DHCP/NAT server and just plugging it into our switch..

So some times the Internet work on one computer and not on the other?

I doubt that it is NAT problem? I would borrow and try another Router before buying a new one.

Quote: "Do they make hardware DHCP servers that have NAT?" Yes they do it called Cable/DSL Router.

Yes, except it would be more basic with it's functions more dedicated to NAT and creating a DHCP instead of providing a network hub. Like you'd plug the device into a Switch and then host the network from there...

So what you want is a Cable/DSL Router with one swicth port (you need one port in order to connect to the LAN), and your are expecting to save big money on giving up three switch ports.

How much you think you can save if good a 4 ports Wireless Cable/DSL Router cost $30-$40 and inexpensive one are less the $20???

It's not a matter of saving money, but to force it to be of higher quality. BLEH...

Ok, fine, explain to me why Windows 2000 Adv. Server has routing functions built in then? Cause my router is failing me, I was seriously considering this option due to the circumstances...
