WoW. No other MMO approaches it in PVP balance.

ROFL. I almost has soda come out my nose laughing.

Anyway..

Planetside Next or whatever its going to be called looks like it could be fun.

Don't ever call a MMO with just Arenas/battlegrounds a PvP game.

If it only has consensual PvP in designated areas, it's not real PvP. You need to be able to random PK people.

That game is boring as hell, even the people in the former Goonsquad (who used to dominate EVE) said so. They literally played just to grief people, which, while one of the reasons why i'd like to do a PVP centric MMO, the game mechanics are still bad and boring.

Eh, a lot of older players say things like that, but it's mostly hyperbole. Once you get your account self-sustaining, it's very little "work" at all. Also, the Goons are a bunch of trolls anyway .. shrug.

There are still vast, VAST amounts of tears to be had in EVE. Definitely the most fun MMO I've ever played. Best PvP, by far.

They already have that, its called single player games.

There's not a single player version of WoW or AoC. Where the action RPG is open ended and never ends. That was always my gripe with WoW; in order to get the best gear you are forced to group. Solo MMO players should still be able to attain everything.

I don't quite follow that logic.

I like the persistent world of MMO's. I don't have the time to wait for, or deal with, grouping. I want to be able to get the best items in an MMO without being forced to join a group.

And this is why we love killing carebears such as you.

The tears are delicious as we kill your 5 billion isk faction fitted Ravens.

You want to get the best stuff, you should be prepared to risk everything.

Getting a group together and doing something together is more difficult than doing it solo, why should a solo person be entitled to the same rewards with significantly less effort?

Because not every player of an MMO wants to group. They shouldn't be punished for it.

Yes they should. If you refuse to take part in the multiplayer aspect of the game, there is no reason you should be able to reap the awards of the game.

The game is designed SPECIFICALLY as a multilayer game. Playing with others is encourage, soloing should NOT be equal to grouping. It's pretty simple.

Solo...massively multiplayer online...paradox detected...

I view MMOs as an action-RPG that happens to have other people playing it alongside me. Not necessarily with me. And there is often a drought of single player action RPGs.

You may view it that way, but that is not what it is; nor what the creators intended it to be. Sure, they want to keep soloers around for the extra subs, but they cater to people who actually want to play multiplayer. That's why it will never be as profitable to solo as it is to group.

I'm fixated on goonswarm because i'm a registered goon on the somethingawful forums :)

But yeah, the only real appeal to me is that they made other players cry and intentionally wrecked the game for them. I dunno, a lot of them say Eve is boring otherwise. I guess the cyber-sociopath element sorta appealed to me, but I hear the new reformed Goonswarm isn't really as 'vibrant' as the old one.

If all you care about is ruining someone else's day, you need a different kind of multiplayer experience. It's called group therapy.

It's not single-player...it's multiplayer...read the fucking acronym dammit.

That is why (in EVE eg.) that remote repping gives more HP than local repping.
The game is designed from the bottom up to be team-centric.

That you consider a cube to be round, dosn't make it round....it is still square...no matter you "feelings".

If everyone is playing against you its still mmo.

With that said you can be very good at market pvp in eve. You could cost someone much more then the price of a battleship with some clever market manipulations. That could be solo pvp.

You can also solo ship pvp in eve but you better be good because you will get jumped.

It's an extremely competitive game where anything is possible, including causing a player to lose everything of value he ever owned in 10 seconds.

It's expected and incredibly awesome

When someone loses a ship they bought with iskies that if they would of bought game time codes instead they could of played the game for free for a year or more :D ahh love it.

It's true, there's not much more satisfying than a solid high value kill. but I feel that for the most part, those flying multi-billion isk ships usually make enough ISK that the loss isn't career ending. Though I'd imagine the tears are sweeter and flow further from some of those high sec faction fit mission runners as they never anticipate the loss. :p

I'm a bleeding heart liberal in real life, but in online gaming, i'm sociopath conservative :p

Warcraft 3 is single player version. AoC = Oblivion.

The plus side you save money in long run.
