Whats a good Programming project for over the summer?

Well, I am looking for a nice Java project for over the summer. I wanna expand my java knowledge and my friend (an experienced c++ programmer) needs to learn java for university.


I was thinking of trying to make a client for freenet.

Anyone have any good ideas?

write a program and build circuitry that allows you to alter voltages of a souped up fanbus via the computer.

I was thinking a Swing project, a standalone primarily.

I wrote a program like this for a final exam in class I took for my Master's degree.

I have a lot of software. I need to keep track of it. I need to know serial numbers, where I purchased it, who the vendor is, if it has a rebate involved. I wrote an app that handles all of that info and then does additional information like rebate tracking and printable lists of all items.

Sound like an idea?

BTW - I worked on this for 2 days at work and according to copyright law, it belongs to my boss under the work for hire copyright rules. He stole it and is using it now. Don't develop it at a job.

I made an MP3 indexer in java. It saves all your MP3 files to a vector which can be serialized to a file. And also you can search thru that vector as well.

that was my project for my gr.12 Comp Sci class.
