What's a good pair of hiking boots

Until they switched to the ACU last fall, the Army was issuing ICBs made by either Bates, Wellco, or Belleville. I don't know what they're issuing with ACUs now, but it's probably a similar mix.

Either way, for civillian hiking, I wouldn't use military footgear. It ain't all that.

Timberland makes some good stuff and they have 40% off every few months it seems.

I've never gotten hiking boots from them though but have gotten some other shoes and books that have held up well and are comfortable.

go to REI or similar reputable store (where the salespeople know what they are talking about) and try some different ones on. I would never get a pair of boots online unless you know exactly how they fit.

you may pay a bit more in a brick/mortar store, but you can always return them easily if they dont fit or even if you just dont like them. REI will take anything back.

Scarpa is a great brand of hiking boot ... I have four pairs of Scarpas (telemark ski boot, low-cut hikers, 2 pairs of leather boots. Butter for your feet 🙂

Also, Nike puts out some lightweight mid-top boots with GORTEX. They're not realy pretty to look at, but they're waterproof, light and comfortable.

I used to use Nike ACG (all condition gear) shoes for hiking. It had gortex and great traction.

Unfortunately, I also used it for running and a bit of tennis. Bad idea.

I just hiked Yosemite's Half Dome last week, and I used my running shoes. I will not be using my running shoes to hike again... ever.

Since I updated the other thread thought I might as well update this one....ended up getting Montrail Torre GTX 12 wide....

There are by far the most comfortable boot or shoe I've ever worn....The fit is perfect.....

I couldn't be happier at this point..... I've yet to really put them to a hard core multiday test yet though.....Will let you know if my opinion changes....

I think that's what I used to have. Lasted 10 years!!!! And I used them all winter (about 5 months/year) for about 5 of those years. Lasted way longer than I eer expected and the Gortex never failed. Paid $150 for them in about 1995.

AWESOME BRAND!!!!

I don't think EMS carries them. Any places I should look?
