Anyway, anyone find a good source for bulk beef online yet?

This place has some stuff, not sure if it would be bulk though. No mention of alternator sizes either.

Well, this is not information for buying beef online, but I've been in the cattle business and used to raise Black Angus and I had a butcher shop. My favorite cut is filet mignon, but my most popular cut is top round or London broil. Prices are often cheap in the fall because ranchers must decide whether to buy hay to feed their livestock during the winter. I've seen some good buys lately and feel it might have something to do with feed prices because of the ethanol thing.

I like to buy top round at a big market, like Safeway, Luckys, etc. when it is $2.00 a pound. I've got a rain check for 20 pounds in my pocket now. I call the butcher and let him know I want him to slice up 20 pounds for me thin cut. This is because if they've already cut up large pieces into small, it's difficult or impossible to slice them again into thin slices. I then show up at the large market and have him cut them thin slices. I then take them home and package them in zip lock bags and freeze them. They defrost in the sink in water in 10 minutes and are easy to cook with. This size is great for fajita strips, chicken fried steak, carne asada for tacos or what not. I also have a cuber for making cube steaks from a slightly thicker cut. I just put my cuber on craigslist in San Francisco because I have too much stuff. The point is this is a cheap cut of meat that's really versatile and can be defrosted quickly. Face it, $2.00 a pound is cheap. I'll buy 20 to 60 pounds at a time. When I butcher my cattle, I don't go for this cut because I must sacrifice other cuts to get it.

Keep your eye out when it's $2.00 a pound and it's a good deal if they'll slice it for you. The slicing has always been free, although Safeway tried to rip me off once. But they made good on the sale price.

CLIFFS

1. not an online source for beef
2. a cheap way to buy beef
3. a versatile cut of beef
4. can be defrosted in 10 minutes
