What's a good MPEG editing software?

I use VirtualDub for all my avi editing, which usually consists of just cropping/cutting/pasting/joining etc. Basic stuff. However, while VirtualDub reads MPEG-1, it doesn't write it. So, I'm wondering what other good, preferably free software there is for basic MPEG editing?

Thanks!

You can use TMPGEnc. There are 'MPEG Tools' under the file menu that will enable you to trim or cut the MPEG1 file. Alternatively, Ulead VideoStudio can be obtained very cheaply and will edit MPEG1 files.

Thanks, I've downloaded TMPGenc but so far haven't even figured how to load an mpeg file instead of a project...I'll try again tomorrow.
