What's a good MP3 player for working out?

I work out outside just about every day during the week. Want something small/light, can be strapped to my arm and is waterproof as I love running in the rain.

full size or mini? One of my coworkers had a mini for about a week..but she destroyed it on one of her workouts...but she is a monster so that may not be representative.

Go with a flash player for working out, hard drives aren't meant to be shaken. Garbage 128mb models are a dime a dozen, many companies offer promotions where you get one for free, iirc Optimum Online recently had one.

I use my ipod when I workout. I have the normal sized ipod, and I drop it a LOT when I Workout (usually while on the hyperextension bench) and it's still fine.

I use my ipod while on the treadmil and all that and it has never skipped on me in over a year.

I've got an ipod and I use it while on the treadmill and when I'm on 30 + mile bike rides...

have no problems with it. The hard drive only spins when refilling the cache, and it only refills the cache like every 30 minutes, so there's very little shock to the hard drive when refilling the buffer, and these hard drives are made to take a beating.

You wont be disappointed with an ipod... I guarentee it...

Creative Muvo Flash player. By far and away, the best MP3 player at that price range. The NX also includes FM radio and doubles as a USB key. Ultra lightweight, light enough to attach to keys, has a battery life of 14+ hours, LCD display, etc.

I've got the Muvo TX FM, and it's been great when working out. Very light, sounds great.

I'm not talking about skipping, but rather hard drive wear & tear. Shock isn't the only concern, there's also the possibility of saltwater (sweat) + PCB, depending how much you sweat. What type of cardio you do is a factor as well - there isn't much shock delivered to the player when riding a bike or using an elliptical machine, for instance - but if you jog, it's a different story. Since you can get a 128mb flash player pretty much for free, I see no reason not to use one working out - even if you have or will soon have a more expensive hdd-based player for car and other portable use.

ipod. there's a free ipod link everywhere in the anandtehc forums. just search for it. 🙂 if the link is posted from a person with 1 post, it's legit. 😀

 I've got the Muvo TX FM too, but the earbuds that came with it weren't that great.

I would ahve to go with everyone else on this one ; small flash-based player is the way to go

Cheap, dependable, dispendable, small, and still loaded with features

You of all people are pimping out a site that gives free mp3 platers?

Ohh, I see... no, I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about how commonplace and inexpensive 128mb flash-based players have become. Actually, I avoided mentioning any specific company names because I'm not in the mood... and too sloshed to properly defend myself... No, my reference is to the fact that the smallest capacity flash players have become a novelty, something for companies like Optimum Online (Huge Cable ISP in the northeast) to offer for free with the signing of a contract for <x> months of their service. Search Hot Deals for confirmation, my BAC is approaching .2 and I'm not in the fscking mood.... 😀

uh, this guy wants to run in the rain. the ipod is NOT waterproof. in fact, i'm not away of any mp3 players that are waterproof. you might have to go w/ a standard waterproof CD player, but there goes your "small" requirement.

Yes there are, I started one. Text

I just don't see why people can't search...

Anyway, there are no waterproof mp3players as far as I know. After the opinions of the people in my other thread, I ended up getting the iRiver iFP-799. It's VERY small, fits on my arm (though the armband should be bigger IMO), and has great battery life.
