After a week and a half of CS, my left mouse button is dead. So I need a new mouse to replace my Dexxa 5-button optical mouse. I want something accurate, but not terribly expensive. Thanks for any suggestions.

how about a trackball... I am not a gamer, but it is great.. I am using a Logitch TrackMan Marble FX. This thing is way better than any mouse I have ever used...

It keepes your fingers from doing nothing, but laying around,,, it sure is usefull

I've found it hard to do things like sniping in a video game with a trackball. Although, I had a friend who swore by them, I guess you really have to try before you buy... which can be a hard thing to do.

icemat sucks...it's a sheet of glass...it squeeks when u run your mouse over, it gets dirty after 5 minutes of use (from your hand rubbing all over it), it can break, it's not flexible, it's heavy (i'm weak), etc...

apparently ratpadz are the best mouse pads u can buy (for precision and mousing area)...though i use my ol' tweety pad and dominate joo in games, so...

rar!

get teh logitech iFeel optical...it's awesome, really...it vibrates and such (note: u can make it NOT vibrate if u want - though, what would u use it for then?)

Everglide has the mousepads
and then look for Crazy Eddie's deals in the For Sale/Trade forum.
I got an MS Intellimouse Explorer for $35 shipped (great deal!).
The optical technology + smooth well tracking mousepad = +3 frags/round improvement in CS
you can't go wrong with this combo.

Good luck.

I use a Everglide with a Logitech Cordless mouse and love it. It takes some tweaking but I could never use anything else now.

Ratpad + Razer Boomslang!

Although, the Razer will run you $80-$100. :) I love mine!

Get a ratpad at 3dcool.

I like my Ratpad better than my Everglide. It's bigger. :)

I have an Intellimouse and like it for general use. But would not recommend it for "hard core gaming!" Analog is still king if you can deal with the cleaning ritual :(

Games like "Half-Life" can be jumpy with the Intellimouse!

--- Oppsss... forgot... ---

Money no object = Boomslang

Or go with the Logitech MouseMan (analog).

I also have to recommend the fUnc sUrface 1030 for a mousepad. I loved the 3M Precision Mousing Surface for it's traction, and the Everglide for it's quickness. But each of those two had their downsides. The sUrface 1030 is the pad that has the advantages I like from the two other pads, without their downsides. The only (MINOR) annoyance with the sUrface 1030, though, is that you have to keep refitting the plastic surface into the rubber base if you lift the pad.

Analog ball mouse!

Don't make me laugh! None of my ball mice were as consistant and accurate as my optical mouse on their cleanest day. I have never had problems with my optical mouse being "jumpy" as you described.

I've been extremely happy with my Logitech Optical Wheelmouse + Surface1030 combo.

$60 or so total, including shipping on the pad.

Been using my ms intellamouse explorer for like almost a year now
and I still love it. high resilotion is why it cost more and not having to clean the thing before a good game is worth alot

I got the Logitech Mouseman Optical (the one with the awesome blue LED), and it has been awesome for me. You have to get used to the optical mouse, and the ergonomic feel of it, but it grows on you very quickly. I bought my mouse for only $25 (when it normally retails for about $50) from a member on anandtech. It was in the box and unwrapped. He's currently in california right now, but PM if you want to contact this person.

I use a Microsoft IntelliMouse Optical paired with a Func Surface 1030. Works well for me, since alot of my gaming is quick, flicking movements. If you want optical, you can go from the IntelliMouse Optical or Explorer, or the Logitech Wheelmouse Optical or Mouseman Optical. For a ball mouse, I've found nothing better than the Logitech Mouseman w/ wheel. I myself can't afford the $100 Boomslang, so I'm not even going to compare that to anything. :)

I use an intellimouse optical. As long as you don't do any very quick flicking movements you should be okay, and i mean you really have to flick the mouse fast to make it go crazy. as long as you keep the light path free of little pieces of hair and the like it works great. You don't really need a mousepad with an optical mouse either. First time i used an optical mouse i didn't do so well at CS but after a couple hours of use my kill ratio got up into the fives and higher(this was back in beta 5.2 when mp5 was king) anyhoo it really depends on what YOU like so i would suggest going out and trying different mice out.
