Not to mention that you'd need an UBER UBER UBER powerful vid card to run games at some of those native resolutions. I mean - the 19"-21" LCDs force you to play games under 1280x1024 - I mean, imagine what you'd need for Doom3 / HL2...

the best cs players use 640x480 or 800x600 when they play...

Best cs players who still use their geforce256s you should add

i'm sure the best players use the fastest card out there at 1024x768(cs max?) 4x aa with 16x aniscopy :)

I wouldn't get anything bigger than 19" to game on. 21" is nice for movies, but too hard to see stuff that's happening on the edge of your screen, just too much space to keep track of.

I wouldn't run CS any higher than 1024x768. Sure it looks nicer, but by shrinking the details the targets actually get smaller, even though their hit boxes are the same size. In other words it'll look nice, but disadvantageous for precision aiming.

CS hardly stresses out any vid card. Hell - the appeal of CS is that any ol box can be turned into a CS box.

umm no. please don't talk about lcds if you don't own one. i have a 17" and native resolution is 1280x1024. 19" and 21" are higher. and lcds are perfect for gaming. granted, you're not going to get the 1600x1200 but lcds have beautiful color and images. ghosting is a thing of the past, so don't worry about that. any good quality lcd that's less than 2 years old will fit your needs just fine. and besides, if you play more current games, your vid card isn't going to be able to pump out decent frame rates at 1600x1200 anyway. so what's the friggin point?

And yes I do know what I'm talking about. I'm not talking about ghosting or what not - I'm saying that if you drop from the native resolution - things look pixelated b/c some of the pixels will be repeated for the lower resolutions.

My point is that w/ all the new games, it will just pay off to have a CRT to just wait out the current set of vid cards. B/c I'm sure when the next set of powerful ones come out - (like ones that will be able to run 1280x1024 w/ decent rates on D3/HL2) - then there will be a major sift to LCDs (which will have all advanced to <16 refresh rates by then).

huh? in fps the stuff is drawn the same relative size, but with more pixels. people in the distance become more distinct as they have more pixels to work with, better for sniping etc.
