What's a good game that my TravelMate could run?

I'm a college student, so this is my primary (read: only decent) machine. No MMORPGs (or anything else that requires a subscription fee), preferably nothing run&gun unless it's multiplayer.

Call of Duty 4 has pretty good multiplayer- might want to check that out.

If you're not into run-and-gun, though, it might not be a good choice. You might want to look into Supreme Commander, but due to its complexity and hefty system requirements, its really a love/hate game (either you love it or hate it).

Also, if you don't mind older games, I'd look into Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri. Its probably the best turn-based game I've ever played, has virtually limitless replay value, and you can probably find it for $5 in a bargin bin somewhere.

I hear the Star Wars: Empire at War Forces of Corruption expansion is very good, but I never had a chance to play it. Might be worth a look.

Since you have older games listed alongside newer ones, try the first two Fallout games. How can you go wrong with turn-based action, a 50's post-apocalyptic setting, and less linearity than any other game of its type?

RPGs:

Planescape: Torment (my favourite game of all time)
Baldurs Gate Franchise
Oblivion/Morrowind

And yeah, Civ 4 since you seem to like those types of games. If you liked Diablo, you'll probably like Titan Quest as well.

^Titan Quest is a good one, and cheap. You'd be able to get the expansion as well.

Try Oblivion/Morrowind. Oblivion has actually been shown to run decently on X1600's.

and maybe check out Company of Hero's as it seems you also like RTS games

X-COM 1 (using DosBox)
X-COM 3 EDIT: NOT X-Com 2: Terror from the Deep (that was the lemon of the group)
Master of Orion 1
Master of Orion 2
Total War series (other that Rome, which you have tried. many liked Medieval better)

RPG:
Fallout 2 (already mentioned above, but it is worth writting again)
Arcanum

probably have to go to Egay for each of them, unless you have a used marketplace in your town
