Hotmail! They've cleaned up their act big time since 3 months ago. I get 4 spam mail a day at most... without a bulk mail folder even. I get 300+ per day at my Yahoo account.

There's also Zapo.net, mail.com, netzero.net

What don't you like about SquirrelMail? I found it slow, but then realized I didn't have it set up to use my IMAP server to order the messages. After I did that, it speeded things up like crazy.

Anyways, if you are set on switching, I was considering IlohaMail before I set up SquirrelMail. If you want to give it a shot, you can try using it to access your IMAP server at their demo site.

The reason I liked SquirrelMail is because it is really easy to customize, lots of plugins and it had SpamCop reporting (as a plugin).

At this point you might as well wait for G-mail which should be available soon.

bastula: yes, Squirrelmail is awfully slow. How do I set it up so the imap server orders the e-mails? I'm looking on google, let's see who's faster, me with google or you ;)

Bah you beat me to the punch. ;) Didn't check the forums today until now. Good to hear to that you got it working though.

I was always curious why my brother's account and my friends' (all on my server) didn't seem as slow logging in and performing activities as mine. I almost stopped checking my email without taking my laptop with me - it was getting that bad. I finally realized it was the fact I had so many folders was causing the slowdown. I guess it makes sense why Mail.app worked fine with my massive folder structure, while SquirrelMail did not. At least I fixed it now. My brother thought I actually upgraded the machine :D.

Anyways, I guess I'll put it in here for others to see if they are having the same problem. The following is blatantly ripped from Squirrelmail's Wiki:

SquirrelMail configuration:

Allow server-side sorting - If your IMAP server supports the IMAP extension SORT (most mainstream servers do) turn this on. It'll vary by machine speed but when viewing a 17000+ message folder inital viewing delays can go from around 35 seconds to 4 seconds.

Agreed.

I recommended ilohamail.org on AT about a year ago and it's in use here I can give you my password if you'd like to test it out REAL TIME (no demo - so you can send and receive email).
