What's a good external storage device?

I need a good external hard drive, and I've been looking for about an hour now- but I can't seem to find the right one for me.

it'll be good if it's over 120gigs, 7200rpm, but what I really want is reliability. Reliability, plus less heat, and anything that can withstand 24/7 hours of on-ness. I read Maxtor HDs have a MTTF is over a million hours but people complain about the HD dying after a day or two or a week. so what some good alternatives? or if it's Maxtor what can I do to prevent crashes?

thanks

My neighboor has the WD 200GB external HD...its abit pricey but it works great so he says. I don't have personal experience with WD's line of external HD's, but their internals always worked great for me. The WD externals normally come with a 1 year warranty I believe.
