whats a good external enclosure for an ide hdd ?

Hi

guys I have an extra hdd I have no use for and I decided to mount it via firewire, but I cant seem to decide what enclosure to buy, so many out there
any recommendations ?

good point powermarkymark, however I like something about that ams, I have something planned thats a bit crazy but I think it might work

heartsurgeon can I ask you something ? one: does it have a switch off button on back ? I cant figure it out
two: can you run it without the cover ? and three: does the hdd sit well if not bolted ? 😉

my idea is to make it a convertible with great hot swappability 😉

Get one with FireWire. I bought a Bytecc firewire HD enclosure and Vantec USB 2.0 HD enclosure. The Bytecc is 6MB/sec faster. Bytecc 29MB/sec, Vantec 23MB/sec.

oh yes Im going firewire without a second thought 🙂
but I was unsure what brands are good, what chipsets etc etc

yes, there is an on/off switch

yes you can use it with the "top" off

and yes, i have swapped out drives easily and used the device without "bolting" the drive to the enclosure tray.
