I need a card that is extremely stable (has good drivers) to capture video. It doesnt have to be digital just an plain NTSC in. Any recommendations. Something not too expensive either
You can get an ATI Rage Fury Pro VIVO for about $60 + Shipping. I've used a bunch of them and they seem to be stable. ATI drivers are not the best, but the image quality is satisfactory IMHO.
Another "vote" for the Rage Fury Pro VIVO. I have one and it works fine either in Windows 98 or 2000. Video capture works well, but to capture MPEG2 you need to get some additional files from the AIW driver set because the Rage Fury Pro (RFP) doesn't support MPEG2 capturing according to ATI. Which is a lie, they just don't include the software. Let me know if you get a a RFP, I'll point you in the right direction.
I have a Rage Fury Pro and the VIVO is pretty good, but it sucks at games if you have a slow processor (mines a AMD K6-III 450). It worked well on my 1Ghz machine, though.
But I also have an Asus V7700 Deluxe which is a GeForce 2 GTS card with VIVO. It is definately superior at games and VIVO (will capture MPEG2 and VCD or any other format, near as I can tell! ). But it costs almost three times as much as the Rage Fury Pro. I think I just saw it for $170 at new egg? Depends on how much is in your budget...
<< I'm looking for a cheap card w/ decent VIVO so i can set up a divx/tivo/dvd type box for the livin room >>
That's what I use my RFP for. It works good for gaming also because you have to run the TV-out at 800x600, so there's plenty of performance at that relatively low resolution. It looks good, too. The TV-out is excellent.
<< ...got any links?? >>
If you decide to get the RFP send me a PM w/an e-mail address and I will send you the files and instructions you need.
