I need to make a backup of my dvds so that i can watch them on my laptop. whats a good dvd player for my pc to do this?

thanks

I would recommend the Lite on 16X DVD players. They're fast but kinda noisy when spinning at full speed. A very good player IMO. 🙂

i'm guessing that the original poster meant he wanted to know what dvd writer to use...? if so, there are a few hundred threads on that subject. do a search real quick and you'll see some good discussions. i think there's a sony out there that does almost all formats. that would probably be the best idea.

@ deadsquirrel - He's specified "ripping" which means "DVD->DivX" and not the straight-copying. I'm assuming his laptop only has a CD drive.

If it's hardware you're asking about, add another vote for the LiteON 16X with SmartX for audio-ripping pleasure. 🙂
If it's software, then prepare to be 0wn3d by a roving Mod. Don't think discussions on DVD ripping are looked kindly upon, even if they are legit. 😛

Someone also suggested removing all the extras from the original DVD - extra soundtracks and features; the movie itself should then fit on a single DVD-R.

I have a Pioneer 106S and it has been working flawlessly for me. It is noisy though, which kinda bugs me. Are there any quiet dvd drives out there?
