What's a good DVD burner and media?

I have a flashed HL-DT-ST GWA-4164B to GSA-4166B, and it works alright, but I'd prefer one with better out of the box support. I also have Memorex DVD-R (Ritek F1) which suck.

There have been many threads on this subject... A FAQ would be really nice for this and other "hot topics" since most people don't use the Search feature.

You know, we (the community) should make an FAQ on the best parts for each category (CPU, mobo, drives, etc.). We'd need to have three or four selections per category, so there could be a budget level, mid level, high leve, and possibly uber-extreme-awesome level ^_^

I have been very happy with my NEC 3540a (same as the 3550a, except not lead free) and my Benq DW1655. I almost always use Verbatim DVD media.

I am still using my Sony DRU-510 and DRU-800 burners. Neither have ever made a coaster. I use Ridata and TDK only. I have no clue what is a good burner now as my 2 are old by now. 🙂
