What's a good digital camera?

Argo

I currently have Kodak DC3400. I'm pretty happy with it, like the resolution and USB and zoom, however, my only grudge with it is that it's not too good in the dark and I also can't photograph moving objects. Any recommendations?

I just bought my mommy a Nikon CoolPix 995 for xmas based on my thread a couple days ago; looks to be a nice camera. Search for it, there were lots of suggestions in there if this thread doesn't get many replies.

Unless you are doing something wrong with your existing camera, a 300-400 dollar p/s digicam isn't going to be substantially better.

Are you sure you are using the camera right? That shouldn't be a problem with any half decent camera.

Well, the image comes out blury. I could be doing something wrong, but I wouldn't have any idea - not a big camera person.

Search for criteria of 'sport mode' 'dark' and whatnot.. put in the price range. Its pretty striaght forward.

You can't really ask end users 'what a good digital camera' is; a general question.. They'll only tell you about the one they have; specific. In order to get a better impression of things in general, read reviews.. see the sample images for yourself. Learn about things like chromatic abaration, impress your firends with what you know about the fine camera you've purchased (after looking for a smashing deal in the "hot deals" forum 😉 )

From what I've seen, the Nikon CoolPix series puts out very impressive images.

I myself have an Olympus C-700... with all of its small flaws

Samples from my C-700.. (did alot of car events recently)

Some of them will be blurry.. but thats what happens when the cars are driving around a track and you've got your arm as a tri-pod with max zoom.. guh

Sorry 'bout being blunt up above, but its the sad truth!

I just bought a Fuji Finepix 2.1 mega pixel camera from hsn for 150.00 shipped , excellent deal excellen camera glad i bought it

that was my price range as well.

my only two options that i narrowed it down to were the canon powershot s110 and fujifilm finepix 4800 (mainly because the others didn't have video/sound). there's a thread from a little bit back on the merits of each where i posted why i went w/ the 4800, if you don't need video i'd go with the s110, you're not going to find anything smaller than that little guy 🙂

I just looked up the specs for your camera and it's actually not bad. A 300-400 dollar digicam isn't going to be substantially better.

For moving objects, you need to increase the shutter speed. Your camera will work fine for this situation if you tell it the right thing to do.

<< I could be doing something wrong, but I wouldn't have any idea - not a big camera person. >>

No offense, but there's your problem. A camera is only as good as the person using it. 😉

If you still have the manual, read through it. Buying a new camera won't solve the problems you are having if you don't learn how to operate it correctly.

hehe, so true. Everyone and their mothers pimp the camera they own here. I know I'm guilt of that sometimes.

yep, mainly because it's an opinion based question. i would expect anyone to say their camera. you have to assume that the reason the person chose their camera to buy was because they felt it was the best digicam 🙂

it's easier to ask what's a good digicam for.... what ? then it's just a matter of seeing which camera does it best.

decide what you want in a camera, look up the suggesstions given, and see how they benchmark against the others in the criteria you decided.
