What's a good cooler for an X800GTO?

Currently I have a Connect3D PCI-e X800GTO with 16 pipes unlocked via BIOS flash I believe, and OC'd to X850XT levels 520/540 core/mem. It runs sorta hot, up to 85C though under full load, and I figured I'd buy a cheap aftermarket cooler for it that would offer good cooling performance, maybe I'll be able to squeeze some more speed out of it.

Is there a big difference between this one ATI Silencer 4 and this one ATI Silencer 4 Rev. 2, or is the one for $9.99 a good buy and worth it over the stock cooler?

Thanks

I have a GTO2 with a Ati Silencer 5 on it and love it. I looks like the rev 2 is compatible with more cards, I would think the 5 would fit yours too.

I had a Zalman VF700 Cu on mine, I'm sure you could find one in the FS\FT forum pretty cheap. Either the Cu or AlCu will work well.

IIRC, the X800GTO is actually a R480 core. If that's the case, then I would imagine the Silencer 5 (click me) would work as it was designed for a 480 core, as Mattd46612 stated above.

I noticed the Silencer 4/Rev 2 seems to have copper ram extensions directly attached to the main heat-sink for the front of the card, where the Silencer 5/Rev 2 just seems to have some sort of thermal pads for the ram chips. My assumption would be the direct contact to copper would be better than the thermal pads? So I might go with that one. And btw, my Connect3D X800GTO uses the R423 chipset I believe, and the ATI4/Rev2 seems to be for the 420 chipset which I guess mine is. Should fit ok I believe. Looking at my card and looking at either Silencer 4 or 5, both RAM sink location seem to align correctly with the way my card's RAM layout is.

And I think I like the idea of the Silencer style better versus the Zalman style since the Silencer's have the exhaust feature, which I think would be good for mysetup. It's a LANBOY case, so sorta small, and not the best ventilation I would say.

You do recall correctly... :) All the X800GTO's that unlock to 16 pipes have R480 cores. My X800GTO, otoh, does not unlock, and is an R423 core. I run mine at 570/550.

Actually, my R423 core is running at 16 pipes now =) Max stable is around 550/555 I believe, but I don't run it past 540/550 for games, etc.

I bought an Arctic Cooling Silencer 4 Rev 2 for it, helped a lot. Max load is about 63C now, when before it was 78-85, and idle is down about 10 degrees as well. This is in a reasonably warm Florida home, so a highish ambient temp.

The r423 core is from the x800xt, so it's just as likely to unlock as the r480 core of the x850xt. I had a r423 gto unlocked and OC'd to 580mhz, and either the silencer or the zalman vf700 would easily cool the card.

Interesting, because I've read on a couple of sites that the GTO's basedon the R423 core cannot unlock to 16 pipes. I'm a victim of a conspiracy, I tell ya!

Check out this link - It was only the Connect3D PCI-e version with VIVO. Some other R423 cards may have been able to unlock too, but they had to have the yellow VIVO connector, or the yellow CD-in connector on the PCB. After a while they fixed the Connect3D cards where they could no longer unlock.
