What's a good cheap car for me(young bad driver...)?

Looking at some cars, what kinda car would be best for a new female(if that matters...) driver? Thinking used, but how much should I spend? It seems like I could get a new Kia for the price of a used Civic or something, but I just feel like Kias suck. I would get this Xterra if they would honor that price 🙂, anything on dealerships having to honor their advertisted prices? (Have a good mind to go down to the dealership to demand that car for that price because they have had that price on their for over a week) Also, which cars would have the cheapest insurance rates? Thanks

humm.. if I were you I would get a previous-gen Civic (i think 96-99 or even the 91-95), they are cheap to fix and maintance.

those cheap deals you see on advertisment in newspaper saying like "$12,999 for a 2002 Altima" is probably real. but they have only ONE car at that price, which means other Altima would cost more than that, and the 13k probably is has no automatic tranny nor power this and that and definitely will not have air-con and CD player.

it seems like you can afford a new car though? I would get sometime cheap and simple for my first car and then move your way up for your next car. (which I did, I bought a 100hp FWD stick shift, I love it but its performance sucks)

older cars get cheaper insurance, usually just because they're worth less. if you find something you like, check with your agent to see how much you'll get set back

If you are a "bad-ass" driver then get yourself a pair of good sneakers and stay on the sidewalk. There are a lot of "bad-ass" drivers that just suck big time at driving (and are a danger to other through their stupid actions) and we don't need another one.

PS: and if you are just "bad" (like you don't know the difference between the brake and accelerator pedal) then stay on the sidewalk as well. There is no room for bad drivers on busy streets.

1) How old are you?
2) What's your budget?
3) 2 door coupe or 4 door sedan?
4) Automatic or manual transmission?

A young, bad driver, eh? For you, it's the CANYONERO! Find a good deal on a used one, and use the money you save to purchase the Jaws of Life, and indispensable accessory for young, bad drivers. Be sure to wait until your behind the wheel to fire up that cell phone of yours, too. 😉

since your a new driver just get a Kia or something low end. Reason why pay something like 9K for a car that has over 100K on it. Yes honda's and Toyota's are reliable engine vise, and that is true.. but what people dont say is what about other parts. My Toyota Tercel is falling apart at 130K+ Miles. While the engine is still strong despite Inject on cylinder 2 misfiring at atime. I just had my Emission System rebuilt (cat converter was fried and EGR was screwed up) and also got my clutch replaced. Now my main thing is that I have a suspension problem and a center engine mount problem. Both will take another 1500 dollars to fix. So I am living with it and going to say goodbye to this when it gets ready to die. This is the state at present, but I havent mentioned the water pump failing twice in 30K miles and other stuff.

Just get a newer car you wil be much more happy... insurance.. just shop for the lowest possible, its stil going to be high but much better than you driving a sports car. Get a Kia or a Daewoo or a Hyundia and you will be fine..

I have a friend who has a Daewoo Lanos and likes it.. granted he bought it for school but it hasnt given him one bit of problem since he got it. Ofcourse Daewoo is toast (well i dont know if GM will sell its cars here) but Kia and Hyundia arent bad.

Well if your actually a bad driver, I'd concur with a Civic, mostly because your less likely to kill someone else.

Try the Autopia at Disneyland or the Dogem bumper cars at any amusement park.

That would only apply to collision/comprehensive and not to liability though, no?

For a new and bad driver, I'd recommend something old, big, CHEAP, and easy to fix and maintain. Something like a early-90's Ford Crown Vic or Chevy Caprice. Sure, they aren't cool looking or trendy, but they are bullet-proof and indestructible. The "uncoolness" factor also works in your favor when getting insurance, which means that you would get a lower rate than with something like a newer Honda Civic.

I'm not too bad, just bad at parallel parking(takes me like 15 minutes to parallel park:roll😉, but I don't have to do that often. My budget depends if it's a new car or used car. For a used car I probably wouldn't pay more then $3,000 if that(Thinking maybe under $500 for a car that will last me maybe 6 months). A new car is probaby whatever their MSRP is or less, but I doubt I will buy a new car unless I can get me a crazy deal on it. Actually my parents said they would buy me that new Xterra if the dealership would really let me buy it at that price. I would prefer something that is a 4 door sedan that has an automatic transmission. There is also an auto auction place around here, would that be a good place to get me a cheap car? Would it be a bad idea if I get a car that has a salvage title, but running?

The Civic is actually one of the most expensive cars to insure

They have a very high theft rate.

LOL, be sure to avoid the stray rhinos known to frequent local expressways too!

I would look for a Geo Prizm. It's a 4 door sedan, you can get it with an auto transmission (but the stick is much better 😉) and it's pretty cheap. It's the exact same car as a Toyota Corolla, so it's very reliable. The suggestion of a Crown Vic is a good one, however parking one of those boats isn't the easiest task in the world...you'd probably like a smaller car better.
