Friend was given a computer from work, it's a 3ghz P4 and it has an AGP slot. What cheap AGP card could we throw in there so it'll be a capable WoW/WC3 machine?

Neither of those games require much horsepower. You could probably get a used 6800GT AGP for cheap and it "should" run both of those games at max detail settings @ 1600x1200 or so. If you want more power, there are x1950XTs in circulation, I think that the x1950XT AGP is one of the most powerful AGP cards (but, my knowledge is a bit dated). The x1950XT would be overkill for both WoW and WC3.

WC3 and WoW aren't very demanding in terms of video card requirements. The x1650pro mentioned should run both just fine. How much system memory does the comp have though? That would be a better upgrade for WoW.

I think 1GB DDR 2700 RAM. I don't have it with me to check, though.

if it has extra slots open I'll throw the 2 256MB DDR 2700 sticks I have into it, but if not, I'm not spending money on DDR ram.

wow is a ram hog. upgrade to 2gb and you can get away with a pretty crappy graphics card

yeah for the price the 1650 for what yoyu are doing is fine. also, I would reccomend another 1G of ram. really, it will help as much if not more than the vid card.

yea im going to reafirm what others have said. also, a 7800GS can be had in AGP. i have a buddy who is having me use a system with a p4 3.4ghz and it has a 7800GS in it. all in all it runs ET:QW okay at 1240x1024, though it only has 1 gig of ram also which inhibits it a lot
