I have MBNA. I get equiv. of 1% back, in the form of decent gift certificates. I see that shell has a 5% off card for their gas. I'm thinking of that, but is there another card with great rewards right now? Please only reco mastercard or visa, as the other brands are not worth of me.

TIA :)

*UPDATE* I called to check on status, and the card was approved with an intro limit of $6k.

Citibank Platinum Dividend Rewards. 5% on gas, supermarket and drug store purchases and 1% back on all other purchases. Works great for me

That's what I use. You can get up to $300/year. They were nice enough to offer me a second card, so I can now get $600/year.

5% forever or only for the first 3 months or something?

Forever. I saw an ad somewhere for 5% at dining places too for 3 months. I don't know any more details about it and it didn't really discuss it further in the ad so I wouldn't count on it existing.

Amazon is pretty good, 1% for all purchases and 3% for Amazon purchases, paid out as $25 Amazon gift certs every time you reach 2,500 points. Plus you get ?$20? instantly.

That beats my Capital One which only pays 0.5% on the first $1,500 in purchases, 1% after that.

cool I like Citibank's card.

Do new credit cards always start you off with a low balance?

But you have to have an IRA with Fidelity to qualify for the card, according to their site.

This is from their website:

Eligible registrations include individual, joint, Roth IRA, Traditional IRA or Rollover IRA.
I'm not following - are you agreeing with my earlier post or pointing out that I was incorrect?

That citi card looks great. So, once I hit $50+ I contact them and they send a cheque for the money I'm owed? I think I will get one.

Correct.

$0 annual fee
Great online banking (although I hear MBNA is better in this department).
One time use cc's (which MBN also offers).
0% APR BT offers
5% cash back on drugstore, supermarket and gas purchases
1% cash back on all other purchases
100% RossMAN Seal of Approval

Final question: Do sometimes purchases made at gas stations, drug stores, and super markets not show up as that? I read its guidelines on qualifying merchants, but is there ever a problem with getting the 5%?

I do like MBNA and hate to leave them, but 5% is too much! I will keep my MBNA card, and just run up the $300 on this each year, then go back to the MBNA :)

I'm in the same boat, but I already have the citicard- it's just that I'm going to max out the annual earnable cashback in a few months and I need another card...

I'm on the fence... Amex Blue Cash or a Fidelity 1.5% card or something else?

I've never had a problem. Although if you visit Super Walmart I wouldn't expect 5% as they are not a supermarket (like Piggly Wiggly is).

Stick to national or regional chains and you should be fine
