What's a good business to start with $1000?

I've got $1,000 to spend, so I figure why not start a small online business 🙂
Obviously whatever I'm selling would have to be kind of cheap, because I only have $1,000 and I would need multiple items. Any suggestions?

Find a physical item people want, order it from another country, sell to local shops. Specialized furniture/clothing maybe?

Find a niche and make something specialized.

Overpopulated? Are you serious? That stuff is a huge market and will be one of the easiest things you can do to make money.

Maybe something like www.prosper.com?

IMO it is.

Anyways, I'm looking for something that could keep growing. So prosper.com wouldn't be a good idea I don't think. Like I spend this $1,000, and if everything goes well, then I keep putting more money into it and expanding it.

That's my current "business". The ads on my website make me money. So I am doing the Wii giveaway to get more traffic to my site, but it's not going so well right now 🙁 (I know some of you said it wouldn't)

If prosper goes well, the money you get out of it is what you put back in.

And like you admitted, I hate to say "I told you so", but we, and I specifically, had warned you of these issues. Making money isn't simply just having it in an account ready to buy things, you have to do something with it. You need to find out what you can buy/sell for that price, $1,000 isn't as much as you might think it is. However, there is always a way to do whatever you want, IMO, just have to talk to the right people and be creative.

At the very least, put it in a 5% savings account so it doesn't just sit around.

To the OP - If you really want to do this, and it isn't just some type of overnight hope for success, I would grab some books on introductory business topics. From there, try to branch out and learn about different areas within in, maybe read theories about the stock market, read a book or two on business law, dip a little into business topics like the effects of globalization, etc. I'm just throwing some stuff out there, but before you can do something, you should be educated on it, that'll increase your chance of success.
