What's a good brand for powersupply? What wattage should I get?

My powersupply got fried. Is enermax good? I heard antec is good. I'm using a athlon 1.4 w/ dvd, cdrw, two intake and two exhaust fans, a geforce3 videocard, a hardddrive, and floppy. Is 300watts ok or should I go for more? Anyone know a good place to buy a powersupply? Thanks in advance for replying.

I would say get at least a 350 watter so you can rule out the psu as the cause for any stability problems down the road and to leave room for upgrading. I would look at Antec psus. You can check out directron.com for prices.

PSU brands I trust:

Antec
Sparkle
Enermax

That's about it.

A 350 or 400 would be a good bet to stay on the safe side. Anything over 400 would be overkill, IMO.

i have almost the exact setup you do and i'm running on a 330w enermax psu. i would recommend buying from newegg. their prices on the enermaxes are pretty good and shipping isn't high.

I'd put PC Power & Cooling on top of this list. I just got one of their units. Expensive, but it's quality all around. plus the 5 year warranty is very comforting.

I have almost the same rig (I'd need to upgrade my vid card to get on par with you), and I've been using a 350W Enermax Whisper (which I too ordered from NewEgg...great prices on this in particular). I've been very happy with it; it is quiet, and it helped to cool my computer down.

A couple years ago, at least, PPC&C's PSUs were made by Sparkle, so there isn't really a contradiction there.
I got a Chieftec "1000" and Sparkle 350 from Newegg. Had to pay $25 shipping but I don't worry about power.

On the other hand, I also have a 250 W Superpower supply that runs my K7S5A, XP1600, CD-RW, CD, and 2 HDDs without any problem. Go figure.
