What's a good Beginner Fighter Sim?

I bought a pretty cool USB joystick at a garage sale for $2 and am looking for a game to play with it. I don't want something hyper realistic (though if it has realism settings that I can lower that would be ok).

I used to like playing the OLD Microprose game F-19 Stealth Fighter, and modern day equivalent to that?

X3 is pretty cool, and could use a joystick, but it's not a fighter sim...

It's hard to find the older Star Wars fighter games, and even harder to find the Windows versions of those (they actually predated Win95), but you can find Crimson Skies (not Star Wars) and Rogue Squadron, both of which started out as Windows games.

Thanks for the suggestions, I played a ton of Tie Fighter back in the day. I'm actually looking for fighter AIRPLANE sims, not space sims. And needs to run in Vista.

Thanks Guys

X-wing alliance starts off super easy and slowly gets harder.
Its 3D accelerated and works OK in WinXP.

Ditto for Microsoft Flight Simulator X, and it looks much prettier.

X-Wing Alliance does work fine on Vista Home Premium 32bit, tried it myself.

you either get super complicated and complex flight sims or super easy dumbed down arcadey flight sims.

Complex
IL-Sturmovik
Lock On!

Simple
Blazing Angels
Heroes of the Pacific

BB had that IL:2 Strumovik it looked OK on the box. Is that good? Can the settings be lowered?

Also, did anyone play F-19 or F-117A Stealth Fighter back in the late 80's early 90's?

IL-2 is a great sim. It's pretty hardcore, but you can dial back the realism to make it a bit more forgiving.

F-19 was my favorite game back in the late 80s. I used to play that and M1 Tank Platoon constantly back in the day. I didn't like F-117A as much, but the graphics were better.
