What's a good audio recording software using a mic?

What's a small reliable software to record audio using a mic?
Also looking for something that'll make SMALL audio files.

I'll check that out, my fans on my PC are so loud Aren't there some with a feature that won't record stationary background noise?

I'm sure there are...I'm using this one for call recording, so background noise is a given. Hope someone else has some good references for you.
