I hate to overgeneralize a breed, but I'd have to agree somewhat. Growing up with lots of dogs around my neighborhood I was never bit by ANY dog except 3 totally unrelated cocker spaniels all from different homes. From what I read, this breed suffered from becoming too popular in the 60s and was overbred causing all sorts of health and temperment problems. This happens to a lot of the more popular breeds. Well cared for mutts usually tend to be the healthiest dogs from what my vet was telling me.

I have to agree too. Growing up in my neighborhood there was lots a free roaming dogs one of which was a cocker. That damn dog must have bit atleast 20 people including me. I don't know how they kept from having to put the thing down. It was a very weird dog. It could be a friendly as could be one minute and the next second it would go hostile and if you so much as move bam it locked onto what ever body part was the closest.

My brother had one, sweetest dog you could run into. I can understand about the temperment problems, though. They go hand in hand with the health problems from poor breeding.

Mini Dachshound(weenie dog),from a breeder NOT from a petstore.I have three,they are the best small dog for small places.I now have three acres to allow them to romp on,but one is good for an apartment.They are very loving and loyal.

Now, maybe this is coincidence, because my data is built around 3 cockerspaniels, but each one of them had a VERY hard time controlling it's bladder when they got excited, moreso then the normal dog. These were 3 dogs from 3 different breeders, and they kept this trait into their adult years. Unless you want a puddle everytime someone knocks, skip the cocker.

PS: Proud owner of a beagle, these guys rock. Their instinct is to bark, and bark LOUD, but you can easily train them while they are young not to. Ours never barks, unless he's out chasing bunnies or something
