Hey there, I'm looking for a good cpu and motherboard to replace a faulty and 6 year old cpu and mobo. I'm not very good or up to date with what's good and what's not, I just google it which doesn't always produce the greatest results. I have found, Ryzen 5 3600/MSI B450 Tomahawk MAXand and an i5-10600 would be doable with a cheaper z490 or b460 so long as it doesn't sacrifice quality so much. Would love an i7-9000k but something decent without any lag or screen tearing when flying through a tree or walking through a gas cloud while getting blasted in the dome would be nice. I'm looking in the $400 range so you know my budget. Your help is greatly appreciated. Here's my current build.

OS Version: Microsoft Windows 10 Home, 64 bit

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6500 CPU @ 3.20GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 94 Stepping 3

Processor Count: 4

RAM: 8144 Mb

Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070ti

Hard Drives: C: Total - 228433 MB, Free - 52057 MB; F: Total - 953866 MB, Free - 949292 MB;

Motherboard: ASRock, Z170 Pro4S

Something like this would work well with your video card. And be future proof for quite a while. Ryzen 3600 combo

You could get a B550 motherboard instead along with the Ryzen 5 3600 and upgrade to a Zen 3 down the line if you feel like it.

So the ram synchronizes with the cpu and motherboard? I'm just asking because someone told me when building a new pc to match the cpu/mobo/ram all up to date because they work well like that, Idk.
Yes, everything in that list will work well together. You could probably skip the cooler and use the stock one just fine. They are just a bit noisy is all.

your description says you are gaming
IMO
ryzen 3600
new 16GB DDR3400 CL14 (it is important for the ryzen builds and RAM is not too expensive as it was in ryzen 1xxx lineup times)
MSI b450 tomahawk (or b550 if you fit it the budget)

depends how long you will have it
if you aim for 144FPS gaming, then the intel build is better, much better despite the tests on the internet, they are measuring 1% lows of the prebuild non gaming critital situations, but more pricey
