They're expensive but it's the component you'll keep the longest and worth splurging on.

Yes, without a doubt the display IS the most important component in your system. Without it, your computer is useless. If you use your computer for hours and hours on day, it is the only component you're looking at!

You only have one pair of eyes! Treat them right! There is nothing wrong with spending a few more $$$ on the monitor and buying a video card that is a generation or two behind. A good monitor will outlast any other component in your system. A $700 video card will be long obsolete before the monitor will. Just be sure to invest in a good UPS to protect it from surges and power anomalies. Set your screen saver to power off the CRT after an hour of non use. This will ensure that the CRT heaters last long. Never turn the brightness any higher than necessary.

Cheers!

I've got 2 Sony G500s and wouldn't recommend them. I went through 5 of them before finding 2 decent ones. Even the ones I have have uncorrectable geometry problems which aren't acceptable when you are shelling out over $1,000 (bought last year) for them. Other problems encountered with the other 3 were: monitor settings weren't memorized, very bad geometry and convergence problems.

here is a good site to check out some mitsubishi monitors.

Mitsubishi Monitors

mind you they're BNC & 15-pin compatible. they have extra usb ports on the front and you can OSD/SUB them, for use of two computers on one monitor. the 19" goes for around $400 up and 22" goes for $825 up on Pricewatch. Enjoy !!

You can check the reviews here on this site.

Anandtech reviewed my monitor, and it came out on top of the pack.

IiYama

Best investment I ever made. Oh, and it is 22 inches. You can find it for around $850 today.

Dont just sit there man! Do it!

I don't know if ViewSonic Makes flats but they make really good monitors. I'd recommend them to anyone.
