Looking to buy a second vehicle, an older small truck like a Ford Ranger. There is one I am eyeing for $2000, in great condition. Only problem is I don't have $2000 readily available. Any ideas?

Consider why this is a bad idea, unless that truck is absolutely necessary for a business that will make you lots of money.

Depends on what you do, how smooth you are doing it and how long you stay in the game(whatever game you decide to invovle yourself in).

My advice is to pimp yourself, unless you want to live dangerously then sling glass. ;)

and why is it a bad idea? A truck is a very use full thing to have. Especially as a 2nd car. Not to mention for 2k its a good deal. IF he has any automotive knowledge at all he can do a good portion of the work on it himself (i had a 94 ranger myself and worked on it)

Yeah, I am not looking for anything special. Just mainly its usefulness. I live a mile from where I work, but when I want to take my dog, haul some stuff, etc. It'd be great.

You don't have $2000 now, and you're considering how to quickly make it just so you can turn around and spend it on something you don't need that will cost you even more money in the long run. A Dell 2001FP for $749 is a good deal, that doesn't mean I should go out and buy one just because it'd be useful.

If you can figure out how to make $2000 "quickly", then work your butt off and invest the money.

Better yet, save it until you have 3 months wages in a bank account, then start investing.

I have an emergency savings fund available like you are suggesting, but I don't have extra money for a vehicle.

That's hardly the old-fashioned way.

If getting $2000 quickly worked, people wouldn't have jobs. They would simply move from scheme to scheme making $2000 over and over. There is no way, unless it's illegal or you have money to work with up front (stock market, real estate, etc..). But in that case, you wouldn't need the $2000 would you?

Get a job and look for the next best deal.

I am not serious of a fast way to make $2000, well I am, but I know its not possible. I like the truck, but I have no money. 1 car for my wife, daughter and I sucks. We have been a car family for 3 years and I am ready to move on.

I don't understand this principle, I only took 4 finance courses but does the rules of TVM (time value money) say the sooner you start investing the better? So why wait three months?
